SECTOR GUIDE: DOLLS & ACCESSORIES MGA ENTERTAINMENT

The Lalaloopsy range has grown considerably since its launch in autumn 2010 – achieving third biggest growth in the dolls super category in 2012 (NPD December 2012). Following the launch of four new Lalaloopsy characters earlier this year, autumn will see several new large dolls (£26.99) join the range, as well as a special edition product, taking the total number to over 40. A new creative Lalaloopsy doll segment will also be launched later this year, while the cute Lalaloopsy Littles dolls (younger siblings of the original Lalaloopsy characters), will have new characters introduced, as will the Mini Lalaloopsy range. The recently launched

Lala-Oopsies range, which includes Princess Ballerinas (£26.99), Littles Fairies (£19.99), Mini Lala-Oopsies (£5.99) and Mini Lala-Oopsies Horses (RRP £6.99), will be expanded this autumn with additions to the quirky product line, including a brand new Lala-Oopsies Littles segment. In addition, MGA is further expanding its Moxie Girlz portfolio, which will include a new creative hair play doll, as well as a music- themed doll line and a new water play doll. The Moxie Girlz Magic Swim Mermaid doll (£24.99) was ranked in the ‘Top 50 Items Dolls’ in 2012 (NPD December). When placed in water, the doll will really swim and has a special

ASOBI

Asobi is focusing on three doll lines this year. The company is

distributing products from Petitcollin, the only remaining doll manufacturer in France and one that has been making them in the traditional way since 1860. Many of the pretty doll

faces have sleeping eyes, with rooted hair that can be brushed and styled. The vinyl used to make the bodies and limbs of the dolls is phthalate-free, light in

weight and vanilla-scented. The limbs have been made using molds and the pieces are joined together which leaves a slight line, unlike the sections of modern dolls which are made in one piece

using injection molding. Seedling is one of Asobi’s most significant brands. It says the innovative craft kits “took the UK by storm” last year. The ‘Create your own designer dolly’ kit allows

little ones to make their very own unique doll. The Seedling Kit contains: Cotton Dolly, Embroidery Thread, Assorted Fabrics, Acrylic Yarn, Felt Pieces, Sewing Needles and Instructions.

Last year Asobi entered the collectable market with Sonny Angels. It comprises of 96 different angels to collect, each sold in blind boxes. On special occasions completely unique dolls are secretly sold, some of which have been auctioned for £1,000 on eBay. Read more about this in our eBay feature on page 26. Asobi only lets 100 retailers stock the product and there are only a few spaces left. 01628 200 077

colour-changing tail feature. The witchy glam Bratzillaz
