(L-R): Darryn de la Soul with Soulsound engineers Justin Grealy, Susanna Bologna and Cris Callejo

UNITED KINGDOM Live and Soul By Erica Basnicki

ALCHEMEA’S DARRYNde la Soul has resigned from her full-time post as head of live sound to focus her time and energy on Soulsound – the live event technician career management company she founded in 2011. “After four wonderful and fulfilling

years developing and running the Live Sound Diploma for Alchemea, I feel that the foundations are well enough laid for the future of the course to be secure,” said de la Soul. “I am parting from Alchemea on excellent terms, and will still be looking to the college as one of my main sources of up-and-coming engineers.” In the past two years, the agency “has come along in leaps and bounds”, added de la Soul, who intends on further developing the brand, including branching out into the AV market. Recently, Soulsound has partnered with London-based production company Artists & Engineers, whose work includes Seven Notes, a production developed by Italian luxury

WORLD AKG on fire with Alicia By Erica Basnicki

GUITARIST HANANRubinstein is playing lead guitar on Alicia Keys’ current international Set The World On Fire tour, relying on an AKG WMS4500 wireless system to showcase his sound. “Until I tried the AKG WMS4500, I

was fed up with other unreliable wireless systems in the industry and was seriously considering using a very long cable during shows,” said Rubinstein. “Most wireless systems I’ve played with affect my sound negatively, especially the high end – the shimmer of the guitar and tone depth are lost. With the WMS4500, it’s not about what the system is providing,

but what it’s not taking away.” Rubinstein has played with world-

renowned acts such as Jennifer Hudson, Bonnie Raitt, Gladys Knight, Kanye West and BB King, among many others. “The WMS4500 is significantly better than everything I’ve ever used,” Rubinstein continued. “AKG is off the chain! It facilitates my movements around the stage and I can put on the best show fans expect from Alicia Keys.” The Set The World On Fire tour will see him play with the multiple Grammy Award-winning artist on more than 100 scheduled performances throughout North America and Europe in 2013. n www.akg.com

car manufacturer Maserati and British pro-audio company Bowers & Wilkins. The project saw legendary music producer Howie B isolate and record the ‘notes’ of a Maserati engine at Abbey Road studios, and use them to create two original pieces of music. Going forward, Soulsound will provide artists and engineers with personnel for its live events. “Darryn’s hard work and industry has been instrumental in the successful development and delivery of Alchemea’s Live Sound Diploma,” said Alchemea director Mike Sinnott. “The course has resulted in countless students having gone on to develop careers in the industry. Darryn’s network of industry connections and applied ‘real-world’ knowledge has also helped the course and Alchemea win respect from within the live sound industry, which at the time was somewhat cynical about training and education programmes delivered by the FE and HE sectors.”n www.alchemea.com www.soulsound.co.uk
