PSNEuropecompiles this month’s list of hot new kit TRILOGY

MESSENGER

What is it? An entry-level yet powerful matrix-based intercom.

Details: Messenger is said to bridge the gap between the constraints of low-end, two-wire party-line systems and the cost and complexity of larger broadcast intercom systems. It is said to be easy to install, simple to use and cost effective.

The standard Messenger intercom system comprises an eight-port matrix running from a single power supply, with pre-stored

BOSE POWERMATCH

What is it? Three new additions to the multichannel power amp range with different channel and power levels to the existing range.

Details: As well as the PM8500, the PowerMatch amplifier line now consists of the eight-channel, 2,000W total rated power PM8250, the four-channel, 2,000W PM4500 and the four-channel, 1,000W PM4250.

All models deliver flat frequency response, wide dynamic range and low distortion regardless of output level: full audio frequency response deviation is +/-0.5dB (@ 1W), total harmonic distortion is <0.4% (@ 1W, 20Hz-20kHz), signal-to-noise ratio is >99dB for the PM4250 and PM8250 and >102dB for the PM4500 and PM8500 (below rated power, A-weighted). All models are housed in a 2U chassis and require standard AC circuits.

The amps offer onboard

loudspeaker DSP, support for both low- and high-impedance loads (without external transformers), front-panel user interface and fault detection, plus a digital expansion slot for use with optional audio networking and Bose ESPLink cards.

And another thing: Network versions (PM8500N, PM8250N, PM4500N, PM4250N) are also available for each model, which enable control and monitoring over standard Ethernet networks. www.pro.bose.com

PEARL MICROPHONE LABS PRIORITY

What is it?A large membrane cardioid condenser microphone.

Details: Priority is a handmade cardioid large-diaphragm condenser with a rectangular capsule featuring “an unusually large membrane”. This is said to contribute significantly to the Priority’s

sonic capabilities. Its capsule has been tuned for vocals in particular, with a slight increase (2-3dB) around 5kHz, which corresponds to the presence increase often sought particularly for vocals.

And another thing: Pearl is featured in our report on Sweden, p48. www.pearlmicrophones.com

What is it?A three-way active studio monitor.

Details:Neumann’s KH 310 three- way active tri-amplified monitor features the company’s trademarked Mathematically Modeled Dispersion Waveguide, 290W of Class AB amplification per enclosure, flexible

configuration parameters and two operator panels. The matrix can be expanded as required with the addition of up to two eight-channel expansion boards to create a 24-port capacity; an additional interface board can provide up to four channels of analogue telephone service. The option to include an in-built IP gateway with eight-channel DSP for network connectivity is also available.

SPL CRIMSON, MADISON

What is it? Crimson is a USB audio interface and controller, while Madison is a 16+16 channel studio I/O system.

Details: Crimson (pictured) combines a USB interface with high-quality preamps and a separate, fully-featured monitor controller, creating a cost- effective, portable package. Users can play, playback, record, convert, control and listen with a single device. Features include 30 I/O channels (10 recording and 20 playback); +/-18V operational voltage (for professional levels up to +24dB); two boutique- level, discrete Class A, +/-30V high-voltage mic preamps; two Hi-Z instrument preamps and two separate headphone amps.

Madison combines state-of-the-art conversion, reliable clock and MADI processing with a simple-to-operate, easy-to-expand system housed in a compact 1U rack- mountable unit. It offers 16 input and 16 output channels

(individually controllable); dual stereo speaker set connections (and control); monitor signal mix function (from playback and recording paths); MIDI input and output; plus USB 2.0, S/PDIF input and output.

And another thing: Madison’s built-in MADI port offers near-zero latency digital transmission of up to 64 inputs and outputs with galvanic insulation (via four units connected on a MADI port). www.spl.info

NEUMANN KH 310

acoustical controls, various input options and a variety of mounting hardware options. It also boasts a 8.25” woofer, 3” mid-range driver and 1” tweeter.

And another thing:The KH 310 A is designed for a range of acoustical conditions, including as a near-field monitor, as a front loudspeaker in mid-sized multichannel systems, or as a rear loudspeaker in a larger multichannel system. www.neumann-kh-line.com

And another thing: The base system can be expanded with a flexible range of matrix, panel, interface and software options that can be

configured to meet current needs while retaining the ability to adapt to meet future requirements. www.trilogycomms.com
