installationnews UNITED KINGDOM GERMANY Electro-Voice on ice in Oxford Alcons on song at Ohnsorg theatre By Erica Basnicki

A RECENT modernisation of the UK’s Oxford Ice Rink included the installation of a new Electro-Voice sound system, designed and installed by local specialists Lancelyn Theatre Supplies (LTS). Since the arena, like most ice

skating venues, has an extremely long reverberation time, LTS opted to fly the loudspeakers in a central cluster directly above the 1,500sqm rink. The system comprises six ZX5-60 and four Sx300PI loudspeakers with four EVF-1181S subwoofers. “We hesitated right to the end

before installing the four subs,” said Tim Sachno, LTS’s projects manager. “The ZX5 15º two- way full-range loudspeakers sounded so good on their own we were tempted to dispense with subwoofers altogether.”

An Electro-Voice CPS 8.5 and a CPS 2.12 amplifier power the system while the control and supervision of the system is provided by a DC-One digital sound system processor. “For a relatively small outlay, the operators have acquired an outstanding audio system that represents a sound investment for the future,” concluded Sachno. n www.electrovoice.com www.lancelynoxford.co.uk

FOLLOWING A move to new premises in a former office and retail building, Hamburg’s Ohnsorg theatre has installed an Alcons pro-ribbon sound system. The sound crew around Florian Buhr (Protones Audiotechnik) opted for the almost invisible LR7 micro line array as well as the VR and SR pro-ribbon series from the Dutch manufacturer for the theatre’s new home of the Bieberhaus at the Heidi- Kabel-Platz.

front cross member, a centre cluster solution was the only way to largely cover the stalls and balcony. The Stage Systems team from Gelsenkirchen installed a centre cluster of six Alcons LR7 units. In the frontal stage area, two VR8 compact

monitors with two BF302 bass systems are used. To easily and effectively achieve important psychoacoustic effects in theatre productions, the VR8 front-fills can be also used in stereo. Furthermore, particular emphasis was placed on the installation of more VR8

monitors as delay speakers for the stalls and the seats under the balcony.

“The perfect coverage and stunning depth imaging of the system creates an irreplaceable tool that is also easy to operate,” said Buhr. n www.alconsaudio.com
