[ Spotlight: ECA and ESC partnership ]
schemes; best practice operations; and all of the support and services that ECA members receive.
While the ECA focuses on its trade
association services, the consumer charity ESC reinforces its promotional activity through the Electrical Safety Register, educating the consumer on the benefits of using a competent electrician. This partnership will also mean more
money to fund trade association activities on behalf of ECA members and the electrical contracting industry.
Will I get the same technical assessor? We know that ECA members value the service they get from the ECA Services
Division on technical assessments. Members will continue to enjoy the same friendly service from the same assessment team during the period of aligning customer services and operational practices.
Will my technical assessment change? For ECA members who have taken assessment through ECA Certification,
there will be no change; risk-based assessment will continue in line with the frequency previously agreed.
Can I still use ECA-branded BS7671 certificates? As part of the promotional campaign, we do plan to create an Electrical Safety
Register branded certificate, should you wish to use this. However, you may continue to use ECA-branded certificates; BS7671 is a standard and, as such, it is the standard and not the branding that is important when signing-off work.
What do I have to do now?
As an ECA member, you don’t have to do anything to enjoy the extra
promotion that the Register brings.
Why isn’t there a Certsure LLP website? The partnership is promoting the Electrical Safety Register – see
www.electricalsafetyregister.com – and its brand rather than Certsure LLP, which is the vehicle for the joint venture.
What will happen to ELECSA and NICEIC brands?
It will be business as usual, as the plan is to continue to run both the ELECSA and
Pass on the message!
n The Electrical Safety Register has been created as the definitive guide to quality, competent electrical contractors. ECA and ELECSA members can help make the most of the opportunity by promoting the Electrical Safety Register on their websites – so spread the word by adding a link to
www.electricalsafetyregister.com now.
NICEIC domestic Part P brands for the next 18-24 months while the bodies align business practices and promote the Electrical Safety Register as the definitive one-stop shop for anyone looking for an electrical contractor.
How will my company be listed on the Electrical Safety Register? Your company will be listed according to your competencies; as a domestic
installer or, for those working in commercial and industrial, as an ECA member. Those working in both sectors will be listed as such. And if you’re also registered with TrustMark, this will be listed too.
How will the ECA be promoting the Register? The ECA is mailing thousands of specifiers, such as local authorities,
housing associations and architects across the UK to let them know about the Register. The ECA will be promoting the Register to consumers via public relations and advertising channels, and you will start to see the logo in the trade press too.
Do I have to display the Electrical Safety Register logo? The Register will be promoted to literally thousands of consumers and
specifiers, so we would strongly encourage members to display the logo, to use it on their stationery and to inform clients that
they are listed on the Electrical Safety Register. We would also advise ECA and ELECSA members to add a link to the Register – www.electricalsafety
register.com – to their websites.
Will customers still be able to locate my firm under the ‘Find a
contractor’ function of the ECA website? Yes, your company will be listed on both the Electrical Safety Register and
the ECA website, giving clients and specifiers more opportunity to find an ECA member.
