BASEC opens UK’s largest cable testing laboratory
The British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC) has opened a new 18,000ft2
world-class
cable testing laboratory in Milton Keynes. The state-of-the-art facility, which has also become BASEC’s new head offi ce, is the largest dedicated testing laboratory for cables in the UK. BASEC has made a
signifi cant investment in the new laboratory, including the commissioning of brand new test equipment. BASEC’s previous arrangement for testing with the British Standards Institution (BSI) was concluded earlier this year, and staff and equipment were transferred to the new site. A number of new jobs and apprenticeships will be created locally. Jeremy Hodge, chief

The latest quarterly Offi ce for National Statistics (ONS) fi gures for construction show that new orders for construction remained at a depressed level in the second quarter of 2012, despite having risen 1.5 per cent in the fi rst half of 2012 compared to the same period one year earlier.
