with underwater weights whilst trying not to drown, cycling frantically on a foam noodle and running through water which for future reference is A LOT more resistant than air. Onto Zumba. After hearing good reviews from numerous friends, I was excited to see what all the hype was about. Te Latin inspired class certainly delivered as we found ourselves reenacting a Shakira music video, shaking and jiggling our way to that toned physique. I laughed the whole way through. Te trainers were excellent at pushing everyone to their individual capability. Tey have a sixth sense that can pick up immediately if you are genuinely struggling and there is always an easier adaptation of the activity. Unfortunately for the fitter amongst you this also means they can detect the moment you start slacking and if you are going to cheat prepare to be challenged!

Tey also suggested practical ways of

incorporating our new found love of exercise and healthy eating into everyday life. ‘Failing to prepare is preparing to fail’ was the motto of the week and well worth keeping in mind when trying to get healthier.

Each day of camp concluded with a

much-needed treatment in the Spa. We had Talassotherapy, which consisted of a series of hydrotherapy jets in a mineral rich pool used to stimulate and tone tired muscles. Slightly painful on the muscle groups that we had targeted with exercise but in a strangely enjoyable way. Don’t expect to be blown away by the massage but it certainly helps. Te resort staff were friendly and the rooms were well presented (not that you will spend any time in them)! If you are going to the Springs resort ask for an upstairs room as the noise conduction is

minimal. For a weekend boot camp you have to check out at 11am so for the remainder of the day be prepared to operate from the day-time changing facilities.

I now understand boot camp as a necessity for

anybody looking for some first-class guidance on healthy living. If your health and fitness is important to you then taking a few days to retreat to a Health Spa to focus solely on you and your health may be exactly what you need. Nowadays we are overwhelmed with health messages from the fitness industry and trying to decipher which advice is worthwhile can be half the battle. But at boot camp where you have a personal trainer and nutritionist at your service, whether your primary goal is fat burn, building muscle mass or boosting fitness, the team has the answers.

Champneys offer 2,4 and 7 night Boot Camps at each of its four spa resorts on select dates throughout the year.
