is using too much paper,” she starts. “When wrapping a box, have a very small overlap and ensure that the sides don’t catch when you are folding them in. Awkward shapes are wrapped easier with flexible wrapping such as cellophane or tissue instead of rigid paper.” Jane also runs private classes, which are very popular with retailers and groups of friends and hen parties wanting to pick up the skill. “Clients have a lot of fun on the workshops,” she explains. “Many students go on to work in stores as gift wrappers or set up their own seasonal business.” Clearly, her courses are incredibly effective and it is no surprise that many of them are fully booked within only a short amount of time. Her expertise is clear from her portfolio, which includes services for Harrods, Te Queen Elizabeth Foundation,

W.H. Smith and Claridges, to name but a few. She has also provided a luxury gift wrapping service for Selfridges, Ralph Lauren and Country Living; again, to name but a few! Jane’s accolades also include having personally gift wrapped for various celebrities and getting a commission from the Crown Estates of Somerset to make a card for the Queen (which later went on display in Buckingham Palace Mews). When asked about her celebrity credentials, Jane is very respectful and refrains from disclosing names. However, she does share one particularly exciting story. “I wrapped a very heavy book in front of a well-dressed lady once, only to discover that she was delivering it to Buckingham Palace to Her Majesty!” Jane’s skills mean that she is often in demand and required to travel. Recalling some of these occasions, she reveals, “My job has taken me to some wonderful locations with too many to mention. My most memorable was working in Monaco and flying back by helicopter from the Royal Palace.” With such an impressive list of achievements in the realm of gift wrapping, one imagines that Jane’s poor friends must agonise over gift packaging when it comes to her birthday. To this, Jane confirms, “ My friends dread giving me a wrapped gift so we now have more fun playing who can wrap the worst! We’re all very keen on recycling so it’s funny when I received old paper and ribbon for years ago that has done a full circle and come back to me!” Under Jane’s watchful eye, gift wrapping can turn into an enjoyable hobby instead of a chore

so don’t put up with strips of Sellotape on the sofa this Christmas. Book onto one of Jane’s courses instead and revel in the satisfaction of a beautifully wrapped gift.
