Waterfront meets Jane Means, gift-wrapping expert and demonstrator, to talk about her nationwide workshops and to steal some tips for wrapping gifts

ow many times have you found yourself kneeling on the bedroom floor, red-faced and exasperated, with Sellotape stuck to your mouth
(where are the scissors when you need them) and a disastrous wrapping paper creation on the carpet in front of you? With Christmas fast-approaching, the threat of stubborn gift-wrap thwarting your best attempts at packaging presents emerges; the ghost of Christmas past! Fortunately, there is an answer to this problem. florist, having realised that her true passion lay elsewhere. “My career began after travelling as a child and seeing shops in the continent wrap small gifts,” she explains. “I saw a gap in
the market and decided to run my own gift wrapping courses.” After completing her teacher training, Jane started running these courses from her parents’ Lincolnshire watermill. She also designed a range of ribbons and now sells over one hundred designs online and wholesale as well as managing her courses, which run at locations throughout the UK. When asked what people can expect to learn during these classes, Jane explains, “You will start with the basics and boxes and progress through awkward shapes and all other aspects of gift wrapping.
