The Perfect Party by Julie Perry
J
ulie Perry has more than 20 years experience in the events industry. Whether you are looking for a stylish dinner party in your own home, or a star-studded black tie extravaganza for
hundreds of guests, Julie and her team gave got the contacts and expertise to make it happen. Here, Julie gives our readers her top ten tips for hosting a luxurious Christmas Dinner party.
1. First impressions are key. Set the tone for your party by serving guests cranberry bellinis on arrival from an ice sculpture that doubles up as a champagne cooler.
2. To make sure you can relax, entertain your guests and enjoy your party, I would always recommend hiring staff to serve the drinks and food. Tis ensures no-one ever has an empty glass and you can be the ultimate host or hostess from the pop of the first champagne cork until the last guest leaves.
3. Serve a selection of Christmas canapés as your guests get to know each other. For all-out glamour try serving your canapés on white frosted glass with dry ice.
4. Your dinner table should ooze classic festive chic. For an uber-cool vibe, try dressing the table with a crystal embellished birch tree arbour sprayed white. Dress chair backs with white sprayed twigs adorned with giant snow berries. Scatter tiny candles in jars around the table to give the table a warm, cosy glow. Your guests can’t fail to be impressed by such a decadent display.
5. Glassware is all important. Using one set of coloured glasses is totally on-trend. Glassware with a touch of lilac will really contrast against the stark white of the table dressing. It is this attention to detail that will really provide the finishing touch to your table.
6. Name place settings are all important to get your dinner party conversation flowing. Try using Christmas cupcakes with each guest’s name etched in iridescent icing.
7. If you want to provide your guests with a gift to take home, try an individual Jo Malone candle

lit in their place setting as they arrive. Tey can take this home in the box and every time their candle burns the scent will remind them of your party.
8. Music is key to the ambience of any party. You could go with a simple ipod playlist of jazz style Christmas tracks sung by modern artists, or to blow the budget go for a laid-back duo or solo artist performing in the corner of the room.
9. For food try Christmas dinner with a twist. A three bird roast gives guests the option of chicken, duck or turkey. For dessert go with a trio of mini festive delights such as mince pie, Christmas pudding and pannacota so your guests have a choice.
10. If you really want to pull out all the festive stops, we could arrange to cover your garden in fake snow while your guests are dining and arrange for Santa and his reindeers to be waiting to wish them good night as they leave for home.
