he Complete Entertainment eXchange, also known as CeX, has taken the buy-and- sell concept and updated it by trading in digital entertainment products. CeX shops buy,

sell and exchange mobile phones, games, electronics, computers and DVDs directly from the public. In response to a huge demand for CeX

stores in smaller cities and towns, the brand has recently developed a mini-store concept    plus the ability to raise the balance. Smaller in size than a typical CeX store, the mini stores have lower overheads,

yet the return on investment is, pro rata, the same as a larger CeX store. A 600 square-foot mini CeX store will typically  £600,000.

CeX also offer larger store franchises with

total investment levels of around £250,000, which typically turn over more than a £1 million a year and provide a return on investment in under two years. What separates CeX from other buy-and- sell retailers is its execution. CeX trade in

able to set its own prices. Since 1992 it has expanded its network from the UK into the US, Spain, India and Ireland. There are opportunities for new franchise partners to roll out the CeX retail brand in territories around the world. In the past year the franchise has opened a new store nearly every week in the UK. A CeX franchise offers unrivalled returns, with a typical new store generating a return on investment within two years and an average annual turnover in excess of £1 million. CeX has also won Best Newcomer International Franchise into Ireland in 2012 at the Irish Franchise Awards. Franchise manager, Frank Orchard says:

“What makes CeX unique is that we are a consumer demand-driven business. We don’t push products into the market or tell the consumers what we think they need. Our customers are our suppliers as well as consumers. Every product that we stock is recycled, so we are not dictated to by external forces that could affect the sustainability of the business.” He adds: “Due to a growing demand we

have launched the smaller store format to enable us to bring our full offering to smaller towns across the UK. Our goal is to have local franchise owners that contribute to their local communities.”
