World’s largest RTS intercom system for Bolshoi Theatre
The ornate theatre has been completely renovated
FOLLOWING Asix-year renovation programme the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow has reopened complete with a state-of-the-art communications infrastructure. Hamburg-based Amptown System Company (ASC) handled the installation, which includes the largest RTS stage manager system worldwide. The intercom setup consists of
two Advanced Digital Audio Matrix (ADAM) frames with a total of 448 ports, the frames being linked by four redundant DBX cards. Some 200 keypanels
from the KP-32, KP-12 and MKP-4 series as well as 120 party-line beltpacks and headsets provide reliable communication between stage managers and theatre staff behind, beneath and above the stage. Numerous DSI-2008 two-wire/four-wire interfaces are used to link the four-wire ADAM and two-wire party-line systems to one another. The lavish installation is rounded off by 20 TIF-4000 multi-line telephone interfaces that connect the intercom system to the theatre’s telephone switchboard to
integrate standard telephone lines into the overall matrix. “The new stage-management system can be operated from any of six stage manager’s desks in different parts of the theatre,” explained Stefan Thomsen, ASC’s specialist in communications and stage- management systems. “The SNMP protocol provides supervision of the system components. Naturally the RTS intercom system is also integrated via SNMP into the supervision concept. Should the situation arise, this system is capable of analysing any error reports and passing the information along in the form of voicemail, SMS or email messages.” Although only recently commissioned, the installation has already created quite a stir. “We have been contacted several times about the Bolshoi solution,” added Thomsen, “and experts from other theatres have been making special trips to Moscow to examine and report back on the installation.”n www.rtsintercoms.com
SPAIN
THE CONGRESS Palace (Ciudad de Oviedo) exhibition and conference centre, which recently opened in the heart of Spain’s Asturian capital, Oviedo, has been equipped with a Martin Audio OmniLine solution.
Designed by Valencia-born architect Santiago Calatrava, the 15,530sqm venue consists of several function rooms and exhibition spaces including a spectacular main auditorium (pictured). This unusually shaped 2,500sqm hall has a seating
capacity of 2,144 seats, with a height of 45.16m up to the dome. Installers MEDIACOM 95 and GMI fitted two hangs of 24 OmniLine elements either side of the main stage. The integrators divided each column of the array into three zones or channels of amplification to produce a higher-level control in the audience. Processing is carried out by a Martin Audio DX2 4in/8out DSP environment, which manages the different levels and equalisation of each column. n
