‘A GOOD console just got even better’ is the claim made by Lawo on behalf of its newly- improved mc256 mixing console, introduced at this year’s IBC show, which has added an impressive range of new features to an already popular mix. An enduringly popular choice for broadcast environments worldwide, the mc256 now benefits from a host of additional features, including permanent metering of the 16 central faders, and decentral and two-man operation due to fully-featured ISO bay access. Nine individually assignable

user buttons, illuminated rotary knobs, integrated RTW goniometer and Reveal Panel in the overbridge, and button-glow for colour-coding the channel strips are among the other features of the improved mc256. Felix Krückels, senior product

TWO NEW compatibility announcements were made by Harman’s Studer at this year’s IBC show, beginning with the news that DAVID Systems GmbH now supports Studer’s Monitora protocol, a feature of Studer’s OnAir consoles. DAVID Systems is also now

able to provide BCS (Broadcast Server), its radio playout automation technology, including Turbo Player (the playout engine of BCS), for Studer OnAir consoles. On display at IBC was

Studer’s new Vista 1 compact console, based largely on the Vista 5. With an integral DSP engine of 96 channels, the

Vista 1 can handle mono, stereo and 5.1 inputs, and is provided with 32 mic/line inputs, 16 line outputs and eight stereo AES inputs and outputs on rear panel connections. Both 32-fader and 22-fader models are available. Finally, in further protocol

compatibility news, Studer’s EMBER protocol – found in its range of digital audio consoles – is now compatible with the Mosart MediaLab system. This is the first open newscast automation system to be compatible with EMBER, a standard TCP/IP interface protocol that allows automation systems to control specific aspects of the mixing desk. Previously only available for the OnAir range of Studer consoles, it’s now available to all Vista owners running software V4.8. n www.studer.ch

manufacturers. The recognition of this trend was one of the primary factors behind the development of the original mc256. But now, in light of further technological innovations, we are able to offer more convenient operation and an even smaller footprint while delivering the same extraordinary mc2 performance. With the new mc256, Lawo will be able to reach additional international markets that are undergoing the transition from analogue to digital and IP technology. Quite simply, it is the most compact and cost- efficient mc2 we’ve ever created.”

Available in frames from 16 to 80 faders, the mc256 offers full integration with the Ravenna audio/media networking technology, opening up the possibility to save on cost and space with a maximum of 256 I/Os per Cat5. Connection via MADI – currently enjoying something of a renaissance in pro-audio circles – is also possible. Delivering DSP power of up to 888 channels, the console delivers full loudness control in accordance with standard ITU 1770 (EBU/R128 or ATSC/A85). n www.lawo.de
