By Erica Basnicki

SHURE DISTRIBUTION UK (SDUK) will be providing the London-based Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) with equipment for the school’s live and studio productions, as well as its theatrical sound design and location recording courses. The equipment includes Shure shotgun, dynamic and wireless microphone systems, and Sound Devices recorders for field use. UNITED KINGDOM CUK sees live growth By Erica Basnicki

GLASGOW-BASED CUK Audio has introduced a dedicated live sound distribution division, CUK Live, built around the company’s three core live sound brands; Cadac, Powersoft and Clair Bros. CUK Live was officially launched a week before PLASA 2012. “With our expanding

Europe is hosting a remix competition with UK rock band Snow Patrol, running from this month, October, until 14 December. Snow Patrol, with 12 million albums sold, have been Shure users for years both on stage and in the studio. For the competition, the band is making the isolated music and vocal tracks from their most recent album, Fallen Empires, publicly available. Snow Patrol have said that they are simply hoping that entrants will “create something new and original” using the mix stems. Shure Europe will put together a

shortlist of the best remixes, which will then be forwarded to Snow Patrol. The winners will receive prizes of Shure equipment worth up to €1,500. At the PLASA show last month, Shure announced the European debut of the ULXD4D and ULXD4Q multi- channel receivers for the ULX-D Digital Wireless Microphone System, featuring a ‘High Density’ mode that enables 63 channels to operate in just 8MHz of RF spectrum. n www.rada.ac.uk www.shuredistribution.co.uk www.shure-remix-competition.eu

portfolio of high-profile brands, CUK Audio has seen a greatly increased percentage of our sales in the live sector,” explained MD Stuart Thomson. “Our business is built on the high level of support and service we give our customers, and maintaining this standard for the live sector now requires a more focused approach. With a separate division we can be sure we are completely focused on the needs of the live and rental markets.” “Our plans for CUK Live have

been developed over some time,” continued Thomson. “Taking on Cadac’s new product range after last year’s PLASA show was a milestone in our strategy. This year’s PLASA was the perfect time to launch the new division, and we have a lot to talk about with our three major brands. In terms of Cadac we have an exceptional offering, with a comprehensive range of powerful high-quality analogue and digital consoles and the arrival of full production samples of the CDC Eight and CDC Four.”

manager, Ben Millson, said: “The decision by CUK to focus its resources on the live sound sector with a dedicated division has come at an ideal time for Cadac. Our CDC Four, CDC Eight, LIVE1 and S-Type console range spans the full breadth of live sound applications.” In related news, CUK Audio has been appointed the UK distributor for Pan Beam, a manufacturer of digital steerable loudspeaker systems based in Germany.

“CUK has the technical

resources and a strong portfolio of synergetic brands. I am confident we will see good sales in the key UK market,” said Jan Leerschool, Pan Beam’s international sales manager. n www.cadac-sound.com www.cuk-audio.com www.pan-acoustics.de
