WMS4500

What is it?A range of wireless systems operating across several frequency bands and up to 70 channels.

Details: Said to offer high audio quality, reliability and easy setup, the AKG WMS4500 range comprises four ‘performance- focused’ sets for worldwide use: the D7 Set with a D7 WL-1 mic head, the Instrumental Set with an MKGL cable, the CK77 Set with a

ROYER LABS SF-2

What is it? An active ribbon microphone designed as a premium instrument for use in classical performance applications or to capture acoustic instruments.

Details: The SF-2 is a phantom powered version of the company’s original SF-1 ribbon microphone. It has an output level of -38dB ( 1V/Pa +/-1dB) putting its sensitivity on a par with that of phantom-powered condenser microphones. This enables the microphone to be used with a wide variety of mic preamplifiers, regardless of gain characteristics. The SF-2’s electronics and custom- designed FETs deliver ultra-quiet operation with self-noise of lower than 20dB (A weighted). The SF-2’s magnet/pole piece transducer structure provides a wide,

CREST AUDIO CLH SERIES

What is it? A pair of power amplifiers intended for the contracting and installation markets.

Details: The Crest Audio CLh 5000 and CLh 2500 are described as ultra-high efficiency, servo- controlled, Class D amplifiers delivering high power through two channels to balanced outputs and said to offer “the ultimate in common-mode noise cancellation”. At only 13lbs, the design combines

reduced weight with increased output power, reliability and thermal efficiency. The CLh 5000 produces 2.5kW per channel (RMS) at 70.7V, while the CLh 2500 delivers 1.25kW per channel (RMS) at 70.7V.

Both models feature Crest Audio’s proprietary ACL (Active Clip Limiting) circuitry which automatically reduces gain at the onset of clipping to prevent amplifier and load damage. Over-current and

DC voltage protection is provided, together with channel active and temperature warning LEDs. Additional features include a lightweight switch-mode power supply, remote turn-on, sequential turn-on and a switchable, built-in, low-cut filter.

And another thing: Crest is also making available 100V export models – CLh 5000C and CLh 2500C. www.crestaudio.com

uniform frequency response with no substantial peaks or dips, and the 1.8- micron ribbon element delivers superb transient response. The result is said to be excellent frequency response, regardless of the angle of sound

striking the ribbon. Equally noteworthy, the microphone’s off-axis coloration is negligible.

And another thing: The Royer Labs SF-2 active ribbon microphone ships in an aluminium presentation case with an SFS-2 shockmount, mic sock, documentation and owner’s manual. www.royerlabs.com

WR-L lavalier microphone and the HC577 Set with an HC577 L headworn microphone. Along with custom microphone selections, each set includes the SR4500 receiver plus an HT4500 handheld transmitter or PT4500 bodypack transmitter. The SR4500’s internal software features AutoSetup for intermodulation- free channel selection,

EnvironmentScan settings for radio

frequency range scanning and a RehearsalMode selection which can be used to save system data. The PT4500

bodypack transmitter is said to provide

enhanced durability for rigorous stage use with all major electronic components enclosed in a metal casing for protection.

MICROTECH GEFELL CMV 563/M 7 S

What is it? A reissue of the classic CMV 563 microphone from the 1950s that comes with the M 7 S capsule designed by Georg Neumann.

Details: The CMV 563 is said to have the typical warm, full-bodied sound of valve microphones that are preferred by vocalists and soloists. The valve (vacuum tube)

preamplifier section is equipped with an EF 86 pentode working as a triode, selected for its sonic characteristics. The N 61 power supply is a traditional design in a classic case. It provides the operating voltage for the valve and it can be powered from any mains voltage between 115 and 230V/50 or 60Hz. This means that the microphone can be used anywhere in the world without having to change the power supply.

The CMV 563/M 7 S is supplied in a mahogany box and comes complete with the N 61 power supply, C 563.1 10m connection cable, EA 92 elastic suspension and a GB adapter so that the vintage bayonet M 7, M 8 and M 9 capsules can also be used with the CMV 563. Vintage screw-on capsules, like the M 55 K can be screwed directly on to the CMV 563.

SOUND DEVICES

664 PRODUCTION MIXER

What is it? The newest addition to its line of field and production mixers, building on the features of the 552 Production Mixer.

Details: Sound Devices’ 664 contains six ultra-low noise, high-dynamic range transformer-less preamps that accept mic- or line-level signals and include analogue peak limiters, high-pass filters, input trim control and direct outputs on every channel. Its six input channels have dedicated controls for trim, fader, pan and PFL. The inputs and four output busses are all recordable, for a total of 10 tracks of recording.

Featuring full analogue audio paths for high-performance audio and power

efficiency, the 664 has numerous digital capabilities. Inputs 1 and 6 can be selected as AES 3 or AES 42 inputs for digital microphones, each with its own SRC for simplicity in system clocking. The analogue output selection includes four output busses. The L and R busses are on balanced XLR, 10-pin, TA-3M connectors, or unbalanced on TA-3M or 3.5mm connectors. Auxiliary output buses X1 and X2 are available on balanced TA-3M connectors.

And another thing: Sound Devices has introduced a companion accessory, the CL-6 Expander, designed to add six analogue line-level inputs to the 664. www.sounddevices.com
