UNITED KINGDOM

Chandos Colosseum call for Studer Vista 5

By Erica Basnicki

UK-BASED CLASSICAL music recording label Chandos has invested in a Studer Vista 5 console. Run by Ralph Couzens (son of founder Brian Couzens), the label was ready for an upgrade in order to maintain the sound quality its recordings are known for. Couzens learned about the Studer console through the label’s work at BBC Wales, where a resident technician recommended that he try their in-house Vista 8. “I instantly fell in love with the way the desk worked,” said Couzens. “I saw that Studer produced a Vista 5, which was portable – this was vital with location work.” Recently, the console’s expanded I/O

capabilities were put to good use at the Watford Colosseum, where Chandos recorded the complete orchestral works

FRANCE Jane Zoo captured by Eclipse

Lyric soprano Jane Zoo has recently finished recording her second album at Manoir La Chaussée in Port de Roche, France. Her recording team was headed by Innovason’s Hervé de Caro who also co-produced the album, which was recorded on an Eclipse digital mixing console using digital microphones from Sennheiser. De Caro and his team had the full studio set up and working in less than a day. “We had several different rooms for

the various instruments and, of course, a control room containing the Eclipse and a PC equipped with a Digigram LX6464ES EtherSound soundcard running Cubase,” explained de Caro. “All of the instruments and Jane herself were mic’d up with a variety of Solution-D digital microphones from Neumann. The whole process went off without a hitch – it really couldn’t have been easier.”n www.innovason.com

of Witold Lutoslawski as performed by the 100-piece BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Edward Gardner – for release later this year. “With DSP power you are mixing

complex sound into a stereo bus, but with the Vista 5 the sound and image stay true whatever the content you are mixing,” Couzens said. “With our previous desk the sound could run out of steam with the combination of DSP power and A-Ds, but with the Vista 5 everything remains crystal clear whatever the circumstances. I also love the desk’s EQ, its operating system is intuitive and it’s so configurable if we need to duplicate and expand. “Already I am noticing the improved sound quality of the recordings, and I expect audiophiles will notice it too.”n www.studer.ch

FULL & WIDE SOUND EXACTLY WHERE IT’S REQUIRED

Just 300mm deep, the SL Series can be installed against a wall or in it...dramatically reducing the venue floorspace required.

The new KV2 SL412 and SL2.15 speakers incorporate an eye-catching, slim and stylish cabinet design. Using KV2’s VHD technology, the SL412 loudspeaker utilises 4 x 12” low mid-range components with a single 8” mid- range and 3” large format NPVD compression driver. The cabinet’s configuration keeps low mid frequencies in a controlled pattern, greatly reducing problem room resonances. Cabinets can be designed and supplied with custom colors, grill templates and logos, offering a flexible and true designer-integrated product.

The system is driven by proprietary KV2 amplification. The KV2 SL3000 powers a pair of SL412s and the VHD3200 which can drive up to four SL2.15 subs. SL Series - The Ultimate Club System
