Toshiba at InnoTrans 2012 “What do you want to use your energy for?”
Toshiba will present this month in Berlin a range of energy- saving solutions designed to help its customers reduce
energy costs and CO2 emissions under the theme: “What do you want to use your energy for?” The objective is to help meet customersʼ demands for better energy-saving solutions which may also provide them with new benefits and better value.
Toshiba has been in the railway business since 1899, and launched its locomotive business in 1923 with the supply of electrical components. Today, we supply a wide range of innovative railway technologies including onboard electric systems, train control, power supply, as well as advanced and proven products for electric, diesel, and hybrid locomotives, including complete locomotives. These technologies will be on show in Berlin.
The highlight of the Toshiba stand at InnoTrans 2012 is a railway energy management system which demonstrates our total energy management concept based on our wide range of energy-saving products and engineering capability as a key element in system integration. It also shows the effective utilization of regenerative power and the coordination of train operation and power supply. These innovations will achieve a sustainable railway system together with well-harmonized transportation and energy consumption control. The concept will be explained in a video on our stand where our staff will be happy to answer your question.
Toshiba has a broad line-up of onboard electric equipment, such as propulsion systems, auxiliary power supply systems, traction motors, communication systems, and air conditioning units. In particular, our permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) propulsion system with SiC traction inverter is a key component for producing energy efficient systems and will be on show at InnoTrans. PMSM, which applies a permanent magnet to the field system, is designed for high efficiency and ease of maintenance. Our Train Control and Management System (TCMS) plays an important role in integrating rolling stock systems and is the basis for the train energy management system.
SCiB, Toshibaʼs rechargeable battery, is one of the most important components for achieving optimum energy management in both rolling stock and lineside equipment. It features a high level of safety, long life of charge- discharge cycles, rapid charging, and high performance in low temperatures. The battery is a key component for utilizing regenerative power more effectively, and the cells and a module will be on show.
Toshibaʼs innovative products include a web-based cloud- computing transportation planning system and a GIS (geometric information system) operation monitoring system, which is designed to manage train operations more visually. These systems play a major role in creating a useful transportation and energy-saving management system, and will be demonstrated on our stand in trial operation.
Toshiba also has a range of power supply systems for use in both AC and DC substations. Our power SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) system, which is designed to control power supply appropriately, features an automatic fault recovery function, and will be demonstrated at InnoTrans in trial operation. Toshiba will also demonstrate in trial operation its SIS (Solid Insulated Switchgear) which is SF6 gas-free, compact and lightweight.
Toshiba is striving to provide comprehensive “smart community” solutions encompassing energy, water, and medical systems in order to achieve a balance between environmental considerations and comfortable living. As a part of this objective, Toshiba has taken up the challenge to develop the optimum transport system for the community of tomorrow.
“Toshiba offers innovative energy solutions for smart rail transportation” is our response to “What do you want to use your energy for?”
