GlassGuard BlackBand provides up to 50,000 hours of protection

GlassGuard’s BlackBand lamp coatings have recently undergone testing by a leading UK test laboratory. The result confirms the exceptional performance of the fragment retention

lamp coating throughout its life.

A drop test after 50,000 burning hours showed no degradation of the fragment retention qualities of the lamps. This is an important confirmation of the effectiveness and longevity of the BlackBand coating, which protects products, profits and personnel by retaining the glass fragments in case of accidental lamp breakage.

The long life protection provided by the BlackBand range of fluorescent lamps far exceeds the minimum requirement for IEC 61549 (BS EN 61549) Fragment Retention Lamp Standard. The coating will retain its mechanical properties throughout the life of the lamp, ensuring glass retention at the end of the lamp life. A lumen test carried out at the same time recorded a lumen loss of less than one per cent. n www.glassguard.co.uk

Seaward launches new test meter for solar PV power analysis

A highly versatile new AC/DC clamp meter for effective power measurement and diagnostic testing of solar PV systems has been launched. The high

performance Seaward Solar Power Clamp is capable of measuring DC and AC circuit power, in addition to true RMS voltage and current; harmonic distortion; power factor;

resistance and continuity; diode check; and capacitance. The advanced new power meter has been specially designed for use by solar PV installers and technicians interested in power measurement and analysis on AC and DC systems and carrying out diagnostic checks on inverters. With the 25-year lifetime of PV systems, periodic inspection and testing is necessary to ensure that they are operating efficiently and that maximum power yields continue to be provided. As the PV industry matures, there is expected to be a significant increase in the volume of periodic inspection and maintenance work, making the Solar Power Clamp an ideal tool for this job. n www.seawardsolar.com

MK Electric and Philips produce energy-efficient, dimmable LED lighting

MK Electric and Philips have joined forces to offer a practical solution to overcome the industry’s long- standing issues in producing reliable LED lighting offerings that operate effectively with dimmable switches. MK’s Design Service has produced a specialist dimmer that works with the Philips Master LED product range, specifically 7W Master LEDspot GU10 MV, 7W Master LEDspot GU10 MV DimTone, 12W Master LEDbulb and 8W MasterLEDbulb DimTone. The award-winning LED lamps can be paired with dimmers from two of MK Electric’s most popular ranges, Logic Plus – the classic, white plastic design – and Edge – the stylish, functional, slim profile design. According to McKinsey & Company, LED lighting is forecast to be the dominant technology in domestic and commercial lighting by 2015. Friedland launches range of Spectra+ PIR detectors

Friedland is launching a new Spectra+ range of outdoor lighting and PIR solutions to meet the rising demand for energy-efficient security lighting. Unlike most solutions in the market, the high-end range caters for lights that use electronic ballasts and energy-efficient lighting loads to give end-consumers the option of low-energy PIR devices. Spectra+ consists of five high specification PIR models that can control a wide range of lighting from 600W fluorescent, 2300W tungsten or halogen to 20x20W compact fluorescent lamps and even LED lamps. There are also wirefree options utilising 868MHz technology, which allows the PIRs to work with Friedland’s leading range of Libra+ Chimes. By monitoring occupancy of the area, the Spectra+ PIRs use presence detection to automatically switch the light on when someone enters an area and switch it off when the area is vacated – or at a variable time period post-movement. The detectors offer up to 15m detection range, variable detection areas and an adjustable lux level The IP55-rated Spectra+ range is manufactured to ISO 9002 certification and comes with a two-year guarantee. n www.friedland.co.uk
