www.eca.co.uk South Wales’ weekend away
The South Wales region held its annual weekend conference at the Cliff Hotel, Gwbert-on-Sea, Cardigan, on the weekend of 20-22 July. The weather was superb, and more than 60 people attended the event. Guests were fortunate to have ECA president Paul McNaughton and his wife Karen in attendance, along with group CEO Steve Bratt and past president Alun Pearson. The event kicked off with a Friday evening barbecue outside on the terrace overlooking Cardigan Bay, and a disco for those who like to show off their dance moves.
The business session on Saturday was titled ‘Generating
Opportunity, Securing the Future’, and excellent presentations were given by the ECA’s Neil Hayden, Bill Wright, Steve Bratt and Ken Tracey, plus Audra Fellows of Scolmore and Mark Gardener of Schneider Electric. This was preceded by a welcome from regional executive committe chairman Jon Banfi eld and an address by Paul McNaughton.
The event culminated on Saturday evening with a reception, dinner and dancing to Swansea rock band Lost Boys, who played some ‘cracking golden oldies’. Special thanks from the South Wales region goes to the sponsors of this event – JTL, Scolmore, and Schneider Electric – without whom these events would not happen.
ECA regions enjoy annual Golf Day
On 21 June, the ECA held its 12th Annual ECA National Inter Regional Golf Day at the Tudor Park, Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Maidstone, Kent.
Organised ‘by the regions for the regions’, this golf competition was fi rst held in 2001 – the ECA’s Centenary Year – and has become a fi rm fi xture in the ECA calendar.
Over the past 11 years, most of the ECA regions have taken turns at organising the event, and the competition has taken place at prestigious golf courses in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This year’s event was organised by the Greater London region.
In his welcome address, ECA president Paul McNaughton thanked the ECA Greater London regional team – Emma Burgess, Zoe Freedman and Mal Conby – who all devoted a great deal of time and effort behind the scenes. The president also thanked the sponsors – Kewtech Corporation, MK Electric, Newey & Eyre, Medlock, Schneider Electrical, Edmundson Electrical and Draka UK – and he stated that without their continued loyalty and generous fi nancial support it would not be possible to hold this annual event. The weather on the day was overcast although, thankfully, the rain was minimal; the event was a huge success culminating with the prizewinners’ dinner. This year, the West Midlands team won the President’s Cup for the third time, making them the only region to achieve this. The winners at the event were:
