MANITOBA: POLAR BEAR ADVENTURE
1. ARRIVE WINNIPEG Tour begins: 2:00 PM at Inn at the Forks. Transfers are included from Winnipeg Int’l Airport to the Inn at the Forks. Your adventure begins with an orientation tour to the “Gateway of the West,” culminating with a private reception and welcome dinner at the Manitoba Museum, showcasing artifacts from the Hudson’s Bay Company and the 17th-century trading ship, Nonsuch. Meals D
2. CHURCHILL’S ARCTIC LIFE Everyone’s up early today for a private charter flight to Churchill, “Polar Bear Capital of the World.” A guided tour includes the village of Churchill, isolated yet alive with arctic life, from waterfowl, beluga whales, seals and polar bears to vestiges of its position as a grain exporting town. Meals BLD
3. POLAR BEAR CAPERS Visit Churchill’s Eskimo Museum to view one of Canada’s most comprehensive collections of Inuit artifacts and sculptures (visit day may vary). Then take a seat inside an all-terrain tundra vehicle to enter the arctic wonderland of Manitoba’s Hudson Bay shores. Each autumn, polar bears migrate from the frigid inland to Churchill, the staging area for their winter food-hunting season, offering the opportunity to see them in their natural habitat. You may see cubs cavorting, teenaged polar bears “wrestling,” or old-timers checking out their visitors. Our
naturalist guide will tell you all about these amazing creatures, as well as news of the global conservation efforts that are taking place on their behalf. Meals BLD
4. LIFE ON THE TUNDRA Back out on the tundra plains (in your heated vehicle), look for signs of wildlife – snowy white owls perched on high, cruising falcons and trotting arctic foxes – all on the hunt for unsuspecting prey, like lemmings, the lowest creature on the food chain. Then warm up with stories and lore about daily life on the Hudson Bay, past and present, from a local First Nation resident. Meals BLD
5. DOG SLEDDING! / WINNIPEG Dog sledding is a beloved tradition in Churchill; attend a presentation by trainers that sheds light on the history of these northern breeds and the sport itself. Then experience the whooshing exhilaration of a dog-sled ride for yourself. This afternoon you’ll fly by private charter to Winnipeg; join us this evening for a farewell reception and dinner at your inn in downtown Winnipeg. Meals BLD
6. JOURNEY HOME Tour ends: Winnipeg. Fly home anytime. A transfer is included from the Inn at the Forks to Winnipeg International Airport. Please allow a minimum of three hours for flight check-in. Meals B
