California’s Gold Coast

STORIES BY Ken Burns

You’ll find views, history and culture worth plenty from San Francisco Bay to Yosemite, and beyond. Worth its weight in gold...

Expect to be wowed – in San Francisco, where an epicurean-inspired city waterfront provides a lifeline for fishermen and restaurateurs, in Sonoma Valley’s sun-draped wine country and along the non-stop dramatic ocean views pursued by Pacific Coast Highway #1. Astonishing, ancient trees, mountains and open meadows grace Yosemite National Park, while water and marine life permeate seaside Monterey and its bay, where kayakers meet seals, otters and seabirds. A San Simeon castle foretells the glamorous beauty ahead – in genteel Santa Barbara, glitzy Hollywood and the solid art collections found in LA. California’s pleasures are indeed a treasure.
