tour of the Alhambra, the 14th-century complex built as part fortress, part palace and part small medina (city). The Moorish architecture and the graceful pathways, pools and fountains that grace its Generalife gardens are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Meals BLD

4. RONDA & ANDALUCÍA Drive through green hills, white villages and vast areas of protected Andalucían nature reserves to cliff-top Ronda. Our local guide shares insights on this historic city during your walking tour that includes the dramatically deep El Tajo gorge, which carries the Guadalevín River through the city’s center, and the Plaza de Toros museum – famous as the birthplace of modern bullfighting in which a matador stands his ground against a bull on foot, rather than on horseback. Following lunch, you’ll travel to Seville for a two-night stay. Enjoy a private flamenco show before dinner tonight. Meals BLD

5. A DAY OF ROMANCE IN SEVILLE Seville, quintessentially Andalucían, is a festive and stylish city. Enjoy the sights from the Plaza de España to the immense Cathedral of Seville on a horse-drawn carriage ride; the 15th-century cathedral was conceived as an expression of confidence and wealth following Spain’s Reconquista from the Moors. Then on a walking tour, see the cobbled streets and whitewashed houses of the historic Barrio Santa Cruz and Juderia, the city’s former Jewish Quarter. Time to explore on your own follows. Meals B

6. CENTURIES PAST IN CÓRDOBA Head to the center of Córdoba today, a city captured by the Romans in 206 BC for its strategic location, brought to architectural glory under the Moors in the 8th century, recognized as a seat of Jewish learning and culture in the Middle Ages and today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With a local guide, take a walking tour of the city’s ancient Jewish Quarter and visit the beautiful Mezquita, the Gothic cathedral built inside an 8th-century mosque in the early 13th century. This afternoon, you’ll board the high-speed AVE train, in first class, to the capital city of Madrid. Meals BL

7. MODERN-DAY MADRID From your hotel in the cultural heart of the city, you’ll walk to the nearby Museo Nacional del Prado for a guided tour. Its collection was originally grown from those of the Habsburg and Bourbon monarchs; today it is renowned for masterpieces by El Greco, Goya and Velázquez. An orientation tour of the city follows; see the Plaza Mayor with its terrazas and countless milling students; the opulent Royal Palace; the city’s grand avenues and the landscaped lawns and marble monuments of Parque del Buen Retiro. Join us tonight for a reception and farewell dinner featuring Castilian entertainment. Meals BD

8. JOURNEY HOME Tour ends: Madrid. Fly home anytime. A transfer is included from The Westin Palace, Madrid to Barajas Airport; you should allow a minimum of 3 hours for your flight check-in. Meals B
