4 August 2012 Sound Technology opens demo room By James McGrath

SOUND Technology, UK distributor for Harman Professional, has opened its new pro audio demonstration facility at its headquarters in Letchworth Garden City. The 4,000sqft space provides

an environment for installers, consultants, resellers and hire companies to listen to a comprehensive selection of Harman Pro products. “We’ve invested a great deal in the building so our customers get that bit extra,” commented Ian Cullen, marketing manager at Sound Technology. “For two years we’ve had a project team to address the pro market. But for a long time we’ve recognised the need for this type of

facility. It’s just been a matter of finding a suitable location; and it was fortuitous that the building at our [HQ] site became available.” Kit at the Sound Technology

facility includes the latest JBL CBT passive line array columns, CDi and XTi amplifiers, and AKG DMS700 digital wireless system – with the entire setup networked over BSS Soundweb and controlled via Soundcraft’s Vi and Si Compact consoles. “This is an investment not to maintain what we’re doing already, but to increase what we’re doing, because it is a segment in which there is growth,” added Dave Marshall, managing director at Sound Technology. “Some segments such as MI are tough, but install is promising. We’ve never been

a distributor that’s purely a box shifter, and this new facility is our statement of intent.” Marshall also stated that the

demo room would be used by clients to show end users what the Harman family of products could offer them. It will also serve as a training space, with an EASE course and VTX training scheduled for October and September respectively. Cullen commented that this

Extron launches digital design workshop EUROPE

EXTRON has developed a new one-day educational event to be held at various locations across Europe. The Extron Workshop: Designing Digital Systems That Work is aimed at system designers and integrators and focuses on the practical aspects of designing digital AV systems. Instructors from the Extron Institute programme provide a full day of training and real- world demonstrations on how to solve common digital AV challenges by integrating a wide range of products such as cables and equalisers, extenders, signal processors,

switchers, matrix switchers and XTP systems into system designs. Additionally, coursework explores how to integrate a variety of devices and technologies into a working digital application, and methods to expand system designs in anticipation of future needs and technologies. Extron instructors also cover

troubleshooting techniques for digital systems, demonstrating how to determine and correct the point of failure in a given application. The first workshops will be held on 3-6 September in Frankfurt before running

simultaneously in Paris and London on 17-20 September, and Amersfoot in the Netherlands on 24-28. Additional dates and locations are set to be announced soon for Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. “The Workshop concentrates on the practicalities of system design and integration, sharing all the valuable lessons we’ve learned

might serve two purposes, as training day attendees may well also be impressed by the equipment capabilities.
