FEATURE: REGIONAL VOICES Sweden

We asked some key players in the Swedish installation industry for their thoughts on the country’s market and outlook

STATE OF THE MARKET

‘Confidence seems to be consistent and the usual demands for flexible functions at best prices

are prevalent. Budgets are generally in line with clients’ aspirations.’

‘There is a lot of IT convergence going on.’

‘There is a serious lack of competent consultants in our business.’

NEW TECHNOLOGY

WHAT TYPE OF TECHNOLOGY

WOULD YOU LIKE TO ADD TO YOUR PORTFOLIO?

‘More professional digital protocols instead of HDMI or similar. Better 100V

speakers with more output. More standards for sound systems so we can leave the cowboy businesses behind and get serious.’

‘Networking, both wired and wireless. More

manufacturers, like Sonos, should skip producing their own remotes and develop nice iPad applications.’

‘Easy to use LED screens and touchscreen solutions.’

INFLUENTIAL

‘Governmental purchasing is based on price issues to a very great extent, meaning there is little room for high-quality business in the sector.’

‘There are stupid laws about public bidding –

known in Sweden as LOU. I’d like to see them updated with new criteria .’

DESIRED CHANGES

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT THE WAY THE SWEDISH

INSTALLATION MARKET WORKS, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

‘Better recognised certifications like InfoComm’s CTS. More certifications from distributors or manufacturers.’

‘Less focus on price, more on the solution itself. More knowledge among consultants – we as entrepreneurs know more about the systems than the consultants themselves.’

‘I’d like to see a general increase in quality – so that we can sell gear that we can be a bit proud of.’

‘Getting into projects in time. Most projects get stuck with building contractors with no clue.’
