Upgrade Bikes

WINNING PLAUDITS from all over the industry and with a chance of going some way in this year’s BikeBiz Awards, Kinesis and its Maxlight XC3 is aimed at the rider with a budget that still seeks a bike of enough quality to withstand the rigours of UK terrain and weather.

Available as a complete bike for

£1,179, or as a frame for £299.99, the bike revolves around Easton Ultralight Taperwall alloy main tubes and Kinesis “superlight” stays, tailored into a very UK-friendly geometry. Should your customer want the complete bike, they’ll take home a SRAM X5 spec, with Tektro Draco2 hydraulic discs and an X- fusion Enix RL 120mm fork. An upgrade is available up front in the form of X- fusion’s Velvet RL2 fork. Pivot is another label exclusive to Upgrade in the UK and one which again has a strong following. A flagship of this catalogue is the Mach 5.7 carbon, which when built with XTR and a WTB and Sunrace finishing kit will retail at £5,499. A frame and shock package will cost £2,099 at retail.

Some great new Kenda MTB tyres

Ison Distribution

ISON’S BRANDS are notoriously functional, with the likes of Civia, surly and Salsa carried by the Cambridge firm, retailers will find a variety of workhorses for the customer who seeks something a little bit different. Named after the town of Spearfish, South Dakota, home to the Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club, the Dakota 5-O race, and hundreds of miles of singletrack trails, Salsa’s Spearfish 3 is an ultra-endurance racing and riding machine, perfect for 100-milers, 24- hour races, and all-day singletrack sessions. Aimed at pedaling and

suspension efficiency, Spearfish offers stable, balanced handling that really shines toward the end of a long race or ride, when the rider is most tired. The frame is made from EV6 aluminum and uses Salsa’s pivot-minimising suspension design to keep the rear end tight and tracking well. By removing the rear pivot, the chassis weight is reduced, as are complexity and maintenance issues. A medium frame weighs approximately 5.31 pounds and has received rave reviews from press in the US and UK alike.

This £2,099 bike build comes complete with Rock Shox's Recon Gold 100mm travel fork, BB30 FSA Comet chainset, X7 and X5 gears, Avid brakes and Schwalbe tyres. 01353 662662
