has to be seen to be believed. Get out your Optivisors! The detail madness continues under

the cars where every pipe, hose, tube, wire, battery box and air conditioning unit has been reproduced. On the out- side of each car CPR had a raised, cast beaver shield by the door. The models have the same casting reproduced in miniature. This is incredible. Nothing has been overlooked in designing and producing the models. So how do the cars run? With a few tweaks, they run beautifully. A com- prehensive instruction booklet accom- panies every set. It suggests checking the gauge of all wheelsets before oper- ating the models. On our samples, none of the wheelsets were out of gauge. The manual also suggests installing

a long shank coupler on one end of every car. This is an excellent sugges- tion. By installing a long shank coupler

on the front end of every car except the baggage/dorm (which doesn’t need one because it will always be coupled to a locomotive), the train will easily nego- tiate the curves and turnouts on most layouts. Of course, one has to put the cars on the track with long coupler al- ways forward lest two extended cou- plers end up together making too wide a gap between cars. While on the subject of couplers, the

tail end appearance of the Park car is greatly enhanced by the replacement of its coupler with a Kadee No. 158 scale sized coupler with its trip pin re- moved. In fact, I subsequently removed the trip pins from all of the cars’ cou- plers. I can’t imagine ever uncoupling the train using track magnets. After taking each car out of its pack-

aging, it is worthwhile to turn it over and gently rotate each truck back and forth. If the truck catches on some- thing, look carefully and determine
