By midweek I was enjoying a delicious Jubilee Tea as a guest of the WI. It took my mind off the Parish Council Meeting which I would have to chair, for the first time, that evening!

The following weekend, John and I were fascinated by the display, in The Peel Centre, of old photographs and other documents, relating to the town. The exhibition was arranged by The Old Dronfield Society under the headings of Royalty and Sport associated with Dronfield - very appropriate in this Jubilee and Olympic year. We then crossed the road to have another look at The Hall Barn on High Street, where It was most interesting to see the proposed plans to convert this jewel of a building into an Arts and Heritage Centre for the town, the latter being an amenity which Dronfield really lacks John and I went to our German twin-town, Sindelfingen, to the International Street Festival, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The range of foods on offer was amazing and a little too tempting! We were made to feel very welcome and the weather was sunny and warm. We did spare a thought for you, back at home, in the wind and rain! There were representatives present from five other towns, which are also twinned with Sindelfingen, and there was a quite extensive programme of discussions centred on the elderly and how they relate to the rest of the community. It was hard work but very interesting to hear how towns elsewhere in Europe approach the subject. We both hope we will be able to visit Sindelfingen again during my year in office. Finally, thank you to everyone who joined us at Dronfield’s annual Civic Service which, because of the weather forecast, was this year held in the Parish Church... as the sun shone outside!
