VERYONE has their eyes on the skies in the run-up to Dronfield’s big weekend.

Cliffe Park is the venue for both the Party in the Park charity big stage music concert on Saturday, July 14th, followed by the return of Dronfield Gala the following afternoon.

If you haven’t yet secured your tickets for Party in the Park, just a few hundred remain, with in the region of 1,400 already sold.

On stage to entertain you will be stars from the 50s, 60s and 70s - Marty Wilde & The Wildcats, Dave Berry & The Cruisers and The Rubettes.

Dronfield Eye has produced a souvenir programme for the event, so make sure you buy yours. All programme sales revenue will be added to the money raised for Ashgate Hospice and the Mayor of Dronfield’s Charity Appeal.

On Sunday, July 15th, Dronfield Gala is aimed mainly at children and the good news is that admission is free! The fun event runs from 1-4.30pm.

See you there!

Callum (16), a former student at Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School, is the proud owner of a pair of ‘golden gloves’ - his reward for winning a British Junior Amateur Boxing Association 85 kilos title, defeating his opponent, Gabriel Connor, in the final in the ring in Batley.

Callum, now a Sport and Exercise Science student at Norton College, is a member of Sheffield City ABC, at South View Road, Sharrow. He told Dronfield Eye: “When I was 13 I was overweight and decided to do something about it by training at the gym. If someone had told me I would take up boxing competitively and win a national title, I would never have believed them.” In a remarkable season, Callum also reached the national final of the annual Boys’ Clubs but on that occasion was defeated. His achievements have been noted by the England selectors and he now has an ambition to wear an international vest. Admitted coach Brendan: “When Callum first joined the gym he was so much overweight and didn’t look a potential champion but he has knuckled down and because he is keen to listen and learn, he is going to go far in the sport.

Callum Beardow with his golden gloves

“He is always on the front foot and is as strong as an ox.” Now Callum has studied on a boxing leaders course and he is planning to make a career both competing and coaching in the sport.

HEN Callum Beardow first walked into a boxing gym, his only intention was to train hard in order to lose weight. Three years later, he has been crowned a national champion.
