Born from the creatively vibrant ZX Spectrum scene in 1986, Codemasters has developed and published a diverse mix of titles, but today is best known as a racing game studio. Founded by brothers Richard
and David Darling, the outfit has even designed its own hardware, including the infamous Game Genie accessory. Its Develop 100 success, though, is down to modern smarts, specifically the well-promoted driving title Dirt 3. Operation Flashpoint: Red River
also played a significant role in securing Codemasters its impressive position, but the studio’s publishing team has decided to back away from action after the mega-flop that was Bodycount, made with the now-closed developer Codemasters Guildford.
