Cowen to appear at Golf Live 2012

P

ete Cowen will be on hand to pass on advice to

visitors at this year’s Golf Live on 18-20 May at London Golf Club, Kent. Cowen’s list of clients reads

like aWho’s Who of golf, with the likes of Open champions Padraig Harrington, Darren Clarke and Louis Oosthuizen, 2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell and Danish star Thomas Bjorn. Cowen will host a series

of clinics at Golf Live offering advice and tips to help golfers improve their play. James Goode, Golf Live’s

event director, said: “Pete is one of the most highly- respected coaches in the world and it’s a major coup that he has agreed to appear at this year’s show. “Every golfer, no matter

what their standard, wants to improve and it is not often you get the chance to listen and pick up tips from one of the best teachers in the game. It will be invaluable.” Event ambassador, Colin

Montgomerie, South African legend Gary Player, Solheim Cup winning captain Alison Nicholas and Ladies’ European Tour star Melissa Reid will also be at the show. Manufacturers such as

TaylorMade, Callaway, Wilson, Cleveland, Mizuno, Yonex and Cobra will all be present on the show’s driving range.

Pro Shop Europe April 2012 N

ike Golf has appointed Simon Parkhill as Nike Golf’s new sales director for the EMEA region.

Parkhill is no stranger to Nike Golf. He was with the company at the

beginning of Nike’s move into the sport, having joined Nike (UK) as a golf sales representative for Ireland in 2001, where he worked from the Dublin office. Parkhill was subsequently promoted to the position of golf sales manager for Ireland in 2003, and three years later he was promoted again, this time to become UK & IRE golf sales manager. Over the next five years, he oversaw the doubling of the UK & IRE

golf sales team to a staff of 24, and exceeded revenue and market share growth targets in each of those years. After two years of overseeing growth in Nike’s football division, where he was UK and Ireland sales manager, Parkhill now returns to his first love, golf.

Geoff Pullin, Pro-Shop’s associate publisher, reports on his latest round

I

must start by apologising to Rob Hunt, MD of Powerbug

for not giving a full write-up to our round last month, unfortunately I misplaced the score card but I can say (through gritted teeth) that Rob was the convincing winner 4&3. This month’s round was at

Donnington Grove GC against Alan Dixon from SRP links. After a hearty breakfast we

headed to the 1st tee. I was gifted the 1st as AD lost his tee shot in the woods and given my generous nature I returned the favour, taking 8 on the 2nd to level the scores. On 3 AD needed 3 putts to

get down and I was 1 up and after a solid par on 5 I was 2 up. It was my turn for the putter to misfire as I 3 putted on the next 4 holes and AD sank a 15ft putt on 9 for birdie to level the scores. I had a shot on the 10th

and with 6 apiece it restored my lead to 1 and when AD took 3 on the tee on 11, I was back to 2 up. This lead was short lived and my 3 putts on 13 and 4 balls in the water on 14 combined with AD’s par on 15 left me 1 down with 3 to play. A good par on 16 had us all square and with 4 each on 17 we reached the 18th tee all square. We both scrambled to the green for 4 and I had a 6ft putt for the match. I missed and a draw seemed a fair result.
