Troon makes two appointments

roon, the specialist in golf course management and


development, has announced two new appointments at Meydan, the floodlit 9-hole golf course in Dubai. PGA pro Paul Dennis (top image) assumes the role of general manager, while Dindy Macatlang steps into the superintendent position. Dennis arrives after a four-


year spell as director of golf at the Montgomerie, another Troon managed facility in Dubai. Dennis has been with Troon for the past eight years, including two years as senior PGA assistant pro at the Grove in England before moving to the UAE. He became director of golf at Abu Dhabi Golf Club in 2006. Meydan golf


superintendent Dindy Macatlang brings 11 years’ experience within Troon Golf, as a golf course supervisor, manager and superintendent. Macatlang began his Troon


career at the Montgomerie, as construction and grown- in supervisor, during its construction phase between 1999 and 2001.

weden’s Liselotte Neumann has been named the captain of the


European team for next year’s Solheim Cup match at Colorado Golf Club in Parker, USA. Neumann, who represented


Europe on six consecutive occasions as a player, from 1990 to 2000, takes over from England’s Alison Nicholas, whom she assisted at the 2009 match at Rich Harvest Farms in Illinois, USA. US-based Neumann will seek to build on Europe’s


success in 2011 at Killeen Castle in Ireland by leading the team to its first victory in the United States. Neumann’s 27 worldwide


victories over a 24-year career include the 1988 US Women’s Open and the 1994 Women’s British Open. The 2013 Solheim Cup takes


place from August 13-18, a few days after the PGA Championship. The US team currently leads 8-4 and has never lost on home soil.

News commentator and ex Crystal Palace and England midfielder will be leading his team to hopeful victory on May 28 for a celebrity Charity Golf Day at Burhill Golf Club. Twenty two teams will

gather at Burhill Golf Club in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey, which for four years has hosted the PGA Europro Tour Event 2011. On May 28 the teams will


tee off over the 18 holes simultaneously with a shot gun start. To add to the day’s


activities, there will be a couple of novel competitions that are said to be guaranteed to put a smile on the players’ faces and provide a challenge for their golfing skills. Jacqui Hegarty who is organising the event at Street Child Africa said: “I’m not giving anything away about the games at this stage, but our players are going to have a ball.” The day takes place against


the backdrop of the mid- 18th Century Georgian Club House and the auction dinner will be held in the restaurant where guests will bid for prizes including a villa for 10 in Grenada and a weekend golfing holiday for four in Belgium.

e Vere Oulton Hall has added two new team members with the appointment of Neil Smith as golf course and estates manager


and Robert Turner as the resort’s new golf operations manager. Smith comes from an ex-Ryder Cup venue where he spent 13 years with the responsibility of preparing the resort for the European Tour, Ryder Cup and PGA events, while Turner offers international experience having spent time at Yas Links in Abu Dhabi and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club in Spain. After managing 34 members of staff in his previous role, Smith is


said to be well armed to lead the development of the championship facilities at De Vere Oulton Hall. Turner will help in the management of day-to-day golf operations at the Yorkshire resort.
