Wisconsin Foundation for
School Music Wants to Hear From You!
Wisconsin Foundation for School Music is collecting testimonials and stories from individuals and groups about how music has impacted their lives. The organization wants to hear from students, teachers, community members, parents and anyone in Wisconsin. Please answer this question: Why should we keep music in Wisconsin schools?
Since this process began in January several individuals have responded. Here is an ex- ample of a college student reflecting on his experiences:
“The high level of expectations that my directors have set, have given me lifelong skills that I use in my everyday life. Performing at venues such as the State Marching Band Championships, I have been able to take the experi- ences gained and incorporate them into academics, athletics, and every- day work ethic. Dedication, pride, and integrity are the foundations of which the music departments at the Cumberland School District are built upon. These qualities are not only vital to building better musicians, but better productive members of society. Seeing that I had such a positive experience with music in middle school and high school, I continue that same drive of excellence into all aspects of life. I am a walking product of the influence of a great music program.”
-Preston Hopkins,
2010 Cumberland High School Graduate

Commemorative Bricks Abound
This spring 44 new bricks will be installed leading to the front entrance of the Wisconsin Center for Music Education! Over the past year many people literally solidified their support for music education by purchas- ing commemorative bricks. These bricks are a perfect way to make a lifelong trib- ute to family, colleagues, or maybe to a music teacher who has made a particular impact on your life. Help the foundation to continue laying bricks all year long!
