The book contains a listing of all structures and bridges and for you modelers a list of every “on-line” industry ever served by the railroad. “The Little Nickel Plate,” produced most of its revenue hauling bituminous coal north from its Toledo connec- tions during the winter months and finished autos and auto parts south from the auto plants of southern Michigan. OLEDO Iowa Doubleheader
THIS WILL BE the second consecutive year that a major railfan event has taken place along the Iowa Interstate Railroad and in the Hawkeye State. This year the convention of the National Railway Histori- cal Society will be based in Cedar Rapids from June 18-24, while last year Train Fes- tival 2011 was held in Rock Island during what turned out to be the hottest summer days of July (see R&R October 2011). ing Train festival) and found Chinese-built QJ 2-10-2s Nos. 6988 and 7081 simmering in the Iowa Interstate’s engine facility at Iowa City. Nearby, IAIS GP38-2 No. 701 sat with two business cars. The QJ’s were built by the Datong locomotive shop in 1985 and 1986 and came to the U.S. in 2006. No. 6988 had been “Americanized” with a new front
