talking shop DESTINATION DIALOGUE: THAILAND ROAD SHOWS Thailand way out west
Last month saw the Tourism Authority of Thailand host two agent-focussed road shows in the West Country and Wales. Selling Long Haul was there to record the agents enjoy Thai food, a massage – oh, and pick up several vital selling tips!
“Emirates was pleased to participate as it’s important to engage with the travel trade. We want to promote our operation to Bangkok, served three times a day from Dubai, including our flagship A380 flights.” DAVID PARKER, Business Development and Partnership Manager, Emirates

ristol and Cardiff were the host cities for two well-attended events that attracted over 100
regional travel agents, who had the opportunity to meet directly with key suppliers from Thailand’s travel industry. Around 18 suppliers, including hotels,
representation companies and airlines, were on hand to provide agents with all the information they need to book their clients on a memorable holiday to Thailand. The informal and relaxed evening combined Thai food and regional beer with Thai massages and, of course, plenty of learning.
“We were delighted with the turn out in
Bristol and Cardiff; we had a great mix of independent agents and multiples on both nights. “The feedback we have had from both our Thai suppliers and agents has been overwhelmingly positive. “Already we are discussing taking our
road show to 14 cities next year” CHRIS LEE, Trade Marketing Manager Tourism Authority of Thailand

“The road shows provide the Anand Collection with a good working platform to showcase products and to get our key messages across to agents. The informal style of evening, with a mix of good food and entertainment, works well and keeps agents interested. Anand Collection works closely with agents in promoting Furama hotels, Vijitt Resort and Layana and we also offer great agents’ rates in order that agents can sample the product for themselves. They just need to contact me!” JAS ANAND, Anand Collection
“The event provides Outrigger Hotels and Resorts the ideal platform to meet frontline sales staff in both cities. I am often in this area but was able to see both established contacts and meet new people. With Outrigger being a relative new brand in Thailand, we have a clear message: that people can trust our heritage – it’s 60 years since the first hotel opened in Hawaii – and know with confidence that Outrigger, the first international hotel chain to set up its head office in Phuket, is
embracing Thailand and its people to bring guests a truly wonderful Thai experience.” IAN GRIFFITHS, Ocean Marketing
“This event gave Bangkok Airways the opportunity to promote our new daily flight from Samui to Kuala Lumpur, together with our new code share partner Malaysian Airlines. We also demonstrated Bangkok Airways’ unique product offering of complimentary lounge access for all passengers travelling from Bangkok both in the domestic and international terminals.” ANDREW HOSKINS, Bangkok Airways
“My team found the evening fun and very informative. We learnt a lot about the different hotel chains and what they can offer our clients. “I especially enjoyed talking to Bangkok
Airlines to find out more about its routes and services and was surprised that all passengers have access to the lounges! The food, ambiance and Thai massage were also fantastic” KEELY JAMES, Ian Allan Travel
