FEATURE CANADA
drives are selling well as an affordable introduction to British Columbia. We have seen an increased demand for Québec and Atlantic Canada from people visiting Canada for a third or fourth time who want to experience the history, culture and scenery of the east.”
DAVID WICKERS Joint Managing Director Bridge & Wickers “Demand for Canada is
significantly up on last year. The west – British Columbia and Alberta – is the most popular although we always see a late surge in interest for the eastern provinces. We are seeing more bookings for the Yukon, often combined with Alaska, from previous clients looking for somewhere different. ”
JAMES BUTLER Canada Programme Manager, Audley Travel “Canada is proving
particularly popular this year. Classic parts of the Rockies like Moraine Lake are a huge draw but people are also looking off the beaten track, and wilderness lodges are very popular, particularly those that offer bear watching. The high quality of hotels in eastern Canada is a big pull, and we’re finding that gastronomy, given the French heritage, is a major influence, with people mixing fine dining with sightseeing.”
MARK MEREDITH Product Development Manager US and Canada, Virgin Holidays
“Virgin Atlantic’s new London-Vancouver service has already driven a lot of additional interest in summer touring holidays in British Columbia. Most notably, we’ve seen increased demand for fly-drive tours, RV rentals, the Rocky Mountaineer, and city stays in Vancouver.”

UP CLOSE & PERSONAL
BY AMY WATKINS “Vancouver, gateway to Alaska cruises and the Rockies, is a city that people instantly fall in love with and even on my fifth visit I found plenty to keep me hooked. Granville Island, with its abundance of delicious food stalls selling local BC produce, is the perfect place to get a taste of the city’s diversity. Food trucks are a fast-growing Vancouver phenomenon and they offer fusion food from Korean tacos to Japanese hot-dogs. Granville Market is close to many First Nation galleries and fans of indigenous art can also visit the Bill Reid Gallery in downtown. Many tourists visit Capilano Suspension Bridge, but the equally beautiful Lynn Canyon Bridge is free and only a short bus ride from North Vancouver. Grouse Mountain is a year- round attraction that has everything from zip-lining in summer to skiing and snowshoeing in winter and it’s only a short distance from the city centre.”
