IntellIgence MCA Solutions and Servigistics Merge
Servigistics, a Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) software provider, has completed a merger with MCA Solutions, a provider of service parts optimization solutions. Servigistics’ majority shareholder, Marlin Equity Partners, which has more than $1 billion of capital under management, funded the MCA acquisition as part of its plan to accelerate Servigistics strategic growth.
“Durable goods manufacturers around the world continue to invest in extending the usable life of the products they sell, aiming to bolster post-sales service revenue and profit streams,” stated Eric Hinkle, CEO, Servigistics. “This trend is increasingly prevalent given the persistence of global economic uncertainties into 2012, so the timing for merging with MCA could not be better.”
Servigistics will be integrating MCA’s offerings in performance management, business design, demand forecasting, inventory optimization, supply planning, contract management, network design, lifecycle management, budget management, and supplier management into its existing SLM portfolio,creating the market’s broadest and deepest solution for post-sales service automation. MCA’s three deployment options - enterprise, on-demand, and desktop - will also open up new markets for the combined company.

Aveos Shuts Down
As we went to press Aveos, the spin off firm created in 2007 when Air Canada made its maintenance and repair division a stand-alone company, had shut down. According to a Montreal Gazette article Aveos locked its doors and told some employees they were on permanent layoff. The article said Aveos closed its doors Sunday, March 18, 2012, telling most of its 1,800 Montreal employees to leave the premises at 5:30 p.m. The story said the employees were told to take their tools and belongings with them. As recently as November of last year Aveos announced that it had raised $50 million in financing from a diverse group of existing lenders and private bankers. The company said it would use the funding for investments in its component solutions center, for operational enhancements to its inventory and procurement management systems, and to expand its engines capabilities. “We presented our plans to various lenders over a year ago and we are very pleased with the outcome today,” stated Peter Timotheatos,
Aveos CFO at that time. “It demonstrates a tremendous vote of confidence in the company’s strategic direction and in the future of our business.” Also at the end of November last year the company announced that it had added seasoned aviation industry leaders – Tim Canavan, Shannon Wagner, Paul Lochab, Mike New and Bob Madigan – to its executive team. Some top executives reportedly left the company abruptly last week. The official announcement has confirmed Aveos was indeed seeking bankruptcy protection called CCAA protection in Canada. that in many cases dwarfs some of the other commercial verticals we are in,” said Mark Vigoroso, pictured here, senior vice president for Global Marketing. “To join forces with MCA was important because MCA has developed some pretty interesting beachheads in aerospace and defense over the years.” Business verticals Servigistics also work in are industrial equipment, motor vehicles, high tech, consumer electronics, medical and scientific equipment, utilities and aerospace and defense. Vigoroso said that Servigistics’ forte is looking at how to optimize each component in a business irrespective of the dependencies one has on another. How to optimize the overall system might very well look like sub-optimizing one of the components, he stressed. “The biggest opportunity for Servigistics and now with MCA is to take a leadership position in helping durable goods manufacturers and their service network partners to solve cross functional coordination problems when it comes to delivering on the higher order service metrics like overall total cost to serve, total profitability, overall revenue contribution, overall client life cycle value, concepts in A&D like high velocity maintenance. These are higher order concepts that are not solved in the market place by most point application solutions and they are not even solved by the other platform providers like the ERP,” Vigoroso said. “They just don’t have the depth, the industry exposure and the best of breed heritage Servigistics has.” MCA operates out of offices in Philadelphia,
