in-motion programme to deliver lower fluences in rapid

pulse sequences, allowing for multiple passes to be performed faster than traditional diode laser therapy and with less pain. Braun described this laser and its ability to maintain hair reduction over time29, 30

. Pai et al31 evaluated

this device and found its effectiveness in laser hair removal. With the in-motion technique patients experienced less pain compared with traditional diode hair removal. Clinical examples with the Soprano XL SHR are shown in Figures 8 and 9. Diode lasers are widely used around the world and are valued by many in the removal of unwanted hair.

1064 nm Nd: YAG lasers The 1064 nm Nd: YAG lasers also remain very popular in todayÕs laser business because they are the safest laser systems that have been developed to treat darker-skinned individuals but unfortunately, are felt to have the least efficacy as melanin absorption at this wavelength is rather ineffective. However, many use them and multiple treatments with these devices are the norm to achieve successful laser hair removal. One of the first laser systems

developed was the Q-switched 1064 nm laser system. The system was known as the SoftLight system, and marketed by ThermoLase. The process used a propriety suspension of carbon particles that was applied to wax-epilated skin. After a period of time, the carbon suspension was removed and a low-energy 1064 nm laser treatment to the area was performed. 2–3 J/cm2

Nd: YAG lasers continue to receive a great deal of interest because they are the safest group of devices that can be used on darker-skinned individuals. A number of clinical studies have shown their effectiveness in laser hair removal.

found that there

were no needed benefits to waxing or the use of a carbon suspension to achieve similar results with the Q-switched 1064 nm laser system. Other Q-switched 1064 nm laser systems have achieved

success in laser hair removal. The MedLite series (Hoya Con Bio, now owned by Cynosure) has been studied for its effectiveness. Kilmer et al34, 35

repetition rate of 10 Hz, and found some success with long-term laser hair removal. The newer system, known as
