SALINAH SALLEH Tourism Officer, BRUNEI TOURISM
YOU MATTER: Most business to Brunei is through UK travel agents, direct to Brunei- based tour operators, through the airline or via online activities. Our aim is to have more UK agents actively selling and promoting Brunei. We want to do everything that we can to support the trade in general.
THE BACK UP: We want to do more joint marketing activities with operators to ensure Brunei is strongly featured in their brochures and to support agents with tactical campaigns to help sell Brunei.
WHAT'S HOT? Our pristine rainforest and rich heritage and culture with its easy accessibility makes Brunei a great
gateway to Borneo. Brunei is a little gem tucked away in the heart of Borneo where visitors can enjoy a jungle adventure in pristine rainforest one day and then enjoy the luxury of a beach resort facing the South China Sea the next. Brunei, rich in heritage and traditions, can easily be seen in a few days. The yearly palace visit to meet the country's royal family during the festival of Eid ul Fitr at the end of the month of Ramadhan is also very popular amongst visitors.
WHAT'S ON? We are looking to organise a UK roadshow in the first half of 2012. Hopefully, as this is the first roadshow ever organised in the UK by Brunei Tourism, we look forward to seeing strong support from the UK market.
REMEMBER THIS: Brunei is the gateway to Borneo, a wholesome and safe destination with easy flight connections and
accessibility to its attractions making a great combination with other parts of Borneo. Brunei is easily missed when selling Borneo as a destination, however Brunei has its own unique tourism attractions and Malay culture that have yet to be fully discovered. The Water Village's (Kampung Ayer) centuries old web of homes, markets, mosques, schools and other buildings hovering on stilts over the shallow Brunei River is not to be missed!
DID YOU KNOW: Brunei is a dry country so it may not be ideal for those seeking nightlife, but it is definitely a great destination for those seeking relaxation, peace, tranquillity and nature activities such as jungle trekking or diving (Brunei is also popular for wreck diving). Some 78% of the country is covered in rainforest and 58% of the country is part of the Heart of Borneo conservation programme.
COMING SOON As part of the 2011 Tourism Masterplan, Brunei is implementing 69 tourism projects to improve and enhance Brunei Darussalam's tourism industry. We are also working on new products ready by end 2012.
