ASSOCIATION OF CRUISE EXPERTS

Crystal overnights are on the up

ANDY HARMER ACE Director We often talk about the huge choice of

cruise holidays . But this was brought home to me at a business dinner recently with non-travel guests. There were three other couples

around the table, one an avid cruiser who takes the whole family and loves the big ship experiences, and another who are planning their first-ever trip – a river cruise along the Rhine. The final couple, however, were adamant they would never step foot on a ship. There was nothing to interest them and they would never consider it. I happened to mention my recent expedition holiday to a remote part of the world, the fantastic scenery and the excitement of getting close to animals normally seen only on a David Attenborough programme. When I said this was undertaken

on a ship with under 100 guests, they were amazed. ‘We didn’t realise you could do that on a cruise’ they said. As my experience highlights, there

really is huge potential for all travel agents to grow their business. The ability is to identify potential cruisers and talk to them about the range of experiences and destinations. This is just one of the focus areas

of the ACE Cruise Showcases we are running with Selling Cruising and the subject will also be a major part of our ACE Cruise Convention in May. So don't miss out, register at: www.cruiseexperts.org

BY LAURA GELDER Crystal Cruises has added more stationary overnights to its itineraries, giving guests the chance to explore ashore without having to check out. The cruise line has decided to significantly increase its shipboard overnights at the beginning of cruises to ease the worry of late flight arrivals, lost luggage, relocating to/from hotels, finding quality restaurants and settling in prior to sightseeing. This move also enhances recreational choices due to more extensive options being available onboard Crystal’s ships than can be found at hotels on land. Vice President International Sales &

Marketing, Philip Ordever. explained: “By adding more overnights to the cruises, especially at embarkation, travellers only have to unpack once, yet have more time to experience a culture, while still having their Crystal home as a luxurious base.” Crystal has also added overnights to

the middle and/or end of the majority of cruises this year. Worldwide, 26 large cultural capitals
