conference that he was attending. I saw his work and was very impressed. Right then and there, I decided to start using him for my events whenever I could. I admire both Sylvia and Ira tremendously and am always thrilled when I get to work with them again.


WED: What other designers or planners do you admire?


PB: Marcy Blum has a fabulous sense of whimsy, and Vicente Wolfe’s style is beautifully distinctive.


Trends


WED: What are your most popular wedding designs? What do clients always ask you for after seeing photos of past weddings?


PB: Regardless of style, my clients usually want something romantic. When I show new clients pictures of my work, they’re almost always drawn to the color pink and to my signature trees.


I’m very fortunate to have a tremendously strong team – from my designers to my florists to my finance and business experts. Ours is a very complicated industry, and it’s essential to surround yourself with the best talent. It’s the only way to grow a successful business. One of my key management principles is to encourage creativity and education among my staff. This way, as I grow, they grow, too.


WED: We know you have some favorite vendors who you like to work with. Who are they and how did you meet?


PB: I don’t think of vendors as vendors but as partners. Together, we help each other stay at the top of our craft and create the best event we can. I’ve been fortunate enough to work closely with both Sylvia Weinstock and Ira Levy. The first time Sylvia and I did an event together, we hit it off immediately. As for Ira, we met when I was speaking at a

WED: Let’s talk a little about trends – what trends are you seeing this year? What are the popular colors, styles, common requests, etc.?


PB: I’m getting more and more requests for elegant destination weddings. I love that so many people are choosing to celebrate their marriage in beautiful, far- away locales -- talk about romantic! It’s a treat to design weddings in fresh and unexpected locations. I’m having fun finding new ways to make destination weddings feel really special. After all, the bride and groom and all of their guests are on vacation; the wedding should reflect that.


WED: What trends would you like to see end?


PB: Trends don’t matter to me, and I don’t think that should be my call. My job is to make my clients’ dream events a reality. I’m not here to judge.
