The Business

WED: You’ve made a great push in the last year on social media. How did this come about and what has been your strategy?

PB: Social media is powerful tool for sharing ideas, debating issues and bringing people together. Events are all about sharing and bringing people together, so it made sense to me to embrace social media.

It’s also important to me to connect with my international fans. I designs events and do speaking engagements all over the world, and I admire my fans’ ideas and their passions. Social media allows me to communicate and get to know all of my fans, whether they live here in the U.S. or abroad in Europe or Asia.

I’ve had such a wonderful response since starting my blog and joining Facebook and Twitter, that I only want to do more. I’ve started a weekly column on my blog called “Dear Preston,” which has been challenging but also great fun. I get to answer tough questions from my readers. My team and I have also launched a bridal blog on the site, called Bride Ideas. I realized that many of online fans were brides, and I wanted to give them their own space to explore new ideas, tips and styles. Planning your wedding is all about inspiration, and that’s what Bride Ideas is all about.

WED: Tell us about your Facebook App – how does this work and how can bride’s use this to help in their planning?

WED The Magazine

PB: My application is called Bride Ideas, which is the first of its kind on Facebook. The app makes it easy for brides to communicate and brainstorm ideas for their weddings with their friends and family on Facebook. I also get to chip in and share my tips and wedding advice with them.

WED: Any plans for an iPad or iPhone App?

PB: It’s definitely in discussion, but most of the website is already ipad/iphone friendly.

WED: You’ve created a brand that signifies luxury. What are some of the products you are currently supporting?

PB: Designing beautiful events will always be the core of my business. However, I’m in discussions to develop a line of bridal and wedding products will make it easy for brides to incorporate something extra special into their wedding festivities.

I’ve also just started curating products for the shopping community site OpenSky (https:// opensky.com/prestonbailey). I find so many wonderful products when I’m traveling and designing for work, and now I get to share them with my fans on OpenSky.

WED: Tell us about your design course with The Wedding Planning Institute – how did this develop? What was your goal in creating this course?

PB: I'm a strong believer

in

education. No one taught me how to become an event
