{Excerpt from} Be the Man by Chris Easter
In his new book “Be the Man: The Man Registry guide for grooms—a practical [and funny] guide to navigating the wedding minefield” Chris Easter looks at all different aspects of wedding planning from the groom’s perspective. For the almost groom, a great place to start is Chapter 1— ”Engagement Ring Shopping.” Easter starts with the basics—practical advice on how much to spend, how to find out what type of ring your bride will like, and what to look for in a ring. He follows up in Chapter 2 with “Rules of Engagement,” the how-to’s around the Proposal.
Our favorite part in this chapter is “What Not to Do,” which we share below: Whatever you do, don’t make these deal breaking mistakes during your proposal:
Say anything that resembles the infamous “Sh*t or Get Off the Pot” proposal from the movie The Bachelor
Tell her she’s so smokin’ hot that you know she’ll never get fat
Ramble on about how great her mother looks and that it’s a sign that your girlfriend will look just as great when she’s an old lady
Say that you love the fact that she’s a stellar cook and house cleaner Mention that you’re doing this to get your grandmother off your back
Use the words “child-bearing hips” or “amazing rack,” unless your girlfriend likes hearing those things (and if so, seriously, what are you waiting for?)
We love the humor interspersed throughout this book. It keeps it interesting and fun to read so that the groom will actually read enough to pick up the advice that’s in there as well. Get it for your groom-to-be today!
