WED: You’ve written 4 books, correct? How did the first one come about?

PB: The lovely literary agent, Karen Gantz, approached me and asked if I would be interested in publishing a book. I loved the idea, so Karen and I met and started brainstorming what such a book would look and feel like it. It was a wonderful project and so different from anything I had done before. Eventually, our brainstorming sessions led to my first book, Design for Entertaining.

WED: Your new book is Preston Bailey Flowers: Cen- terpieces, Place Setting, Ceremonies, and Parties. How would you describe this book?

PB: The goal of the new book is to experience anew the pleasures of flowers. I was eager to offer my own interpretation of Mother Nature’s lavish beauty. Regardless of a floral arrangement’s size or complexity, I love the way fresh flowers capture people’s attention. For an instant, at least, flowers force people into the present moment; they surprise and delight people and make them smile. I wanted to recreate that on the page. The stories in the book describe my ongoing adventures with flowers. They are fickle creatures, and I’m always trying to give flowers new life. I want every new arrangement I create to top my previous creation.

WED: You did a great video series available on your website and YouTube called The Preston Touch. How did this come about?

PB: I was looking for a new project. But I was also looking for a way to help deserving brides, who didn’t have a big budget, celebrate their big day in a big way. Video seemed like the perfect way to achieve both of these goals. It all came together when a bride, who was also a young florist in California, reached out to me. She was an admirer of my work, and she had recreated one of my

chandeliers entirely out of gummy bears! I was so impressed by her creativity and touched by her passion for my work that I wanted to help her create her dream wedding.
