Rank calls for single tax rate


he Rank Group has issued a statement calling on the UK Government to ‘level the playing field’ and set a single tax rate for online and land-based gambling. Rank chief executive and chairman Ian Burke said in a paper


published by the Group that an even tax rate for land-based operators would benefit the economy through job creation and more sustainable tax generation. In the statement, Rank reminds the coalition government parties of their


pre-election pledges to bring the taxation of bingo in licensed clubs in line with other forms of gambling, including online bingo, from 20 percent to zero percent or 15 percent.


Online Gambling: $46.1 billion by 2015 A


ccording to a new paper from Research and Market - “In Global Online Gambling” - the global online gambling market will have a value of over $46 billion by the end of 2015. The report says the


market had total gross gaming wins of $29.8 billion in 2010, representing a compound annual growth rate of nearly 14 percent between 2006 and 2010. The paper revealed that sports betting was the most lucrative sector with total gross gaming wins of $12.2 billion, equivalent to 41 percent of the market’s overall value.

Facebook: real money gambling

Facebook is in talks with a number of gaming operators about opening its platform to real money gambling in the UK. The company is reportedly looking at ways to develop the social gaming and credit system, although discussions are at an exploratory stage. Earlier this year Facebook amended its UK gaming policy to allow gambling companies to launch non-money applications as long as it was made clear that it was not traditional cash gambling, while guidelines specify that ‘ads that promote or facilitate online gambling, games of skill or lotteries, including online casino, sports books, bingo, or poker, are only allowed in specific countries with prior authorisation from Facebook’.


IOM operators awarded
