spray tanning

“If you are setting up your business from scratch there is the initial outlay to consider, which of course ifmuch lower if you opt for a mobile systemand

Pop-up booth.” - Britta Brooker, Wow Factor.

“If you are using amobile systemyou should consider the extraction as it is highly recommended and especially when you are travelling to your clients house or doing spraytan parties it is important to keep the air clean not only for you and your clients but also to avoid any overspray onto furniture, carpet etc.” she adds.

These can be put up and taken down usually in a couple ofminutes if not seconds, and are easy to store between treatments. They are usually manufactured fromheavy-duty waterproof fabric, and are very lightweight so can be easily transported to clients’homes. They do not feature an integrated extraction systembut provide a secure area for spray tanning and can be easilywashed down after treatments.

Spray tan solutions are constantly changing and developing to keep upwith the vast improvementswithin the tanning industry and the needs of clients. It’s important that your business alsomoves with the times and as solutions are developing, so does your business.

MarieHills, BusinessDevelopment Manager at Sunjunkie says: “Development in all areas of your business is always important.Your product development has to be at the top of your list. If you as a business are consistently looking atways to improve and develop your products then your businesswill not only survive but go fromstrength to strength.”

Because spray tanning is such a visible treatment, it’s important thatwhen done it is donewell in order to bring back repeat business and to encourage your clients to recommend your salon. For this reason it is important that time and effort is put into researching the latest developments in spray tanning solutions on a regular basis.

Sticking to the same old products you have always used is undoubtedly reassuring for yourself, but your salon could end up stuck in a timewarpwhen other salons are paying attention to new developments and overtaking you. This may then encourage your clients to try different things, leaving youmore than just a fewclients short!

Aroma One of themain concernswith self- tanning products these days is that tell- tale aroma they emit as the tan begins to develop. This smell iswhat is created when the dihydroxyacetone (DHA) begins to reactwith the skin.

All self-tanning products useDHA,which is a colourless sugar that is often derived fromsugar beets or sugar cane. When applied to the skin it reactswith the amino acids in the top layer of the skin, turning it the brown colourwe knowand love.

Because the smell is an issue to somany people, companies are nowworking on formulas to disguise the smell by introducing aromas thatwork in harmony with the smells created during the development stage.

Training

As you know, training is an essential part of any professional tanning process and without the right training a tanning session could go horribly wrong, leaving clients looking far fromthe bronzed goddess they had imagined.

If you decide tomove with the times and introduce new products, machines and solutions into your salon, then it’s also vital that you consider what training you and your staffmay require in order to use these effectively. The correct training canmake the difference between a good and bad spray tan and the number of clients you attract and lose. Product and aftercare knowledge is also essential when it comes to offering a top service.

“If you as a business are consistently looking at ways to improve and develop your products then your businesswill not only survive but go fromstrength to

strength.” -MarieHills, Sunjunkie.

Your supplier should be able to assist you with training. This could either be by coming into your salon and offering group or individual training, advising you of local training classes, or by offering you a DVD or leaflet with details on how to use the equipment. If you are unsure about training or don’t feel confident with the training you have had, make sure that you ask your supplier about it.
