WEB ANALYSIS Windy By Kris Bulla

Boxes and tight web copywriting add to an already eye-popping design.

S

howtime Audio, a one-stop custom shop located in the heart of Chicago, has been owned and operated by Jerry Villa since opening in 2002. Villa learned the trade in other car audio shops in the area, acquiring

a bevy of skills along the way. With a welding shop, full wood shop and full fiberglass fabrication capabilities, no project is too big for this family-run business. “We treat every vehicle as if it is our own,” Villa says, repeating the tried-and-true retail theorem.

Overhauled about three years ago, the site is very pleas- ing to the eyes. It’s fresh and clean, and you notice more and more detail with every visit, from the Chicago skyline above the main name graphic, to the Showtime Audio logo in the filler on the sides of the pages that is muted but still clearly visible. The glistening logo and revolving ran- dom gallery graphics offer plenty of eye candy, but also show the wide variety of things the store and the crew can accommodate.

SITE NAVIGATION & FEATURES Navigation is very intuitive with ShowtimeAudio.net. Menu

buttons have an audible hover and click notification. Te store can be easily found on Google Maps, and it is visible in big print on the “Contact Us” page. Tere are quite a few pages, but they are well organized, and there is an acute sense of promoting ex- actly what the user wants to see on nearly every page. Te home page, for instance, displays Villa next to a short story about the store and his history in the industry, which is right next to the Services link that takes you to the long list of items and services they can install. In the lower third of the page is a link to the YouTube channel showing a news clip and interview with a local TV station recognizing Jerry’s shop. Next to that is a link to a very visual representation of the magazines that the shop has been featured in, available for download as PDF files. Te audio player on the homepage begins playing as soon as

the page opens, which can be annoying. Tus, muting the music or making it easier to pause or disable it would be welcomed.
