ON THE GROUND ➔ Evolvi's booking evolution

ONLINE rail booking platform Evolvi has dramatically enhanced its functionality in the biggest launch in the product’s history. Major changes to the system’s architecture and processing power means that three key improvements have been possible. The first is shopping basket capability, allowing for multiple trips in the same transaction for multiple passengers and, crucially, being able to attribute them to multiple cost centres. The second improvement is pre-trip authorisation and, the third, single-click suggested fares according to what times the booker has put in. These significant improve- ments to the booking platform come about from customer demand for them and after a

TRISTAR ADDS 4X4s TO COMBAT WINTER BLUES

CHAUFFEUR hire company Tristar has added 50 four- wheel-drive vehicles to its fleet in order to help combat another ‘big freeze’ should the UK experience more extreme weather this winter. It says that the travel chaos that hit the UK last winter cost the economy £1.2billion a day. “Our investment in this vehicle type underlines our commitment to be fully prepared for the winter season which has become one of the challenges the industry in the UK now faces annually due to heavy snowfall and icy roads,” says Dean De Beer, chief executive of Tristar. “While there was a certain element of surprise about the extreme weather last year, I fully expect people this year to have a different attitude, and they will want to be 100 per cent certain that they can get to important flights or meetings, no matter what the weather is doing.”

detail but it’s important as it’s what sets Evolvi apart and it’s our selling points.” Deployment of the new developments is in four phases, with the first released in mid-December. The final phases will roll out on January 9th, 23rd and 30th.

NEXUS APP HITS THE ROAD

What is your most memorable business travel trip and why? I had a company conference in Miami and on one of the nights out we saw Gloria Estefan. I also shot three under my handicap on Miami Beach Golf Course!

What is your worst business travel experience and why? I had meetings in Frankfurt when I was full of 'man flu' and left my passport at the airport when getting cash at an ATM. I also missed Liverpool beating Manchester United because of the flight!

What is your favourite destination worldwide and why? I spent a year living in Sydney and had the time of my life. It has a very diverse population, fantastic nightlife, and great beaches. London doesn’t have sharks though, so it’s a close call...

What three items do you never leave home without when on business? I always take my iPad, headphones and a John Grisham novel on my travels.

VEHICLE rental company, Nexus, has introduced a smartphone app for its IRIS rental management system. Available for iPhones and Android smartphones, the IRIS app is designed to give fleet and business travel managers greater flexibility to manage their rental needs, providing complete access to a customer’s account while they are on the move. Users can gain complete access to their account via the new app – which is free of charge to Nexus customers – including making, amending or cancelling a vehicle reserv- ation. Users can also ‘off-hire’ a vehicle as well as find their closest supplier and view

their reservation history. ”The new generation of smartphones are being exploited by many businesses to help people on the move stay in touch, so it makes complete sense to provide access to our IRIS rental management tool through this technology too,” says John Ellis, managing director of Nexus Vehicle Rental. “With the launch of the app, Nexus is helping businesses manage their transport and travel activity more efficiently than ever. By giving our customers access to their vehicle rental usage, no matter where they are, they can stay in control and, therefore, control costs.”

What single thing could be done to improve your business travelling life? The ability to get through security and passport control quicker would be nice – and self-ironing shirts!

What destination would you like to visit next and why? I have never been to Hong Kong, so that's on the list. I have heard many good things about how vibrant the city is and how the atmosphere is one to be experienced. That’s why I spend half my time prospecting Asia!
