Smith: Just getting back to contracting, we take the learning curve out of being an owner. Many of these guys are top-flight craftsmen who, frankly, just aren’t interested in business details but realize that they want to run their own show. That’s why we say, “Just bring your tools. We’ll bring the customers.” Phc: What is the ideal goal for the number of franchises in the future?


Smith: Franchising is about


relationships. I can’t imagine trying to manage 800 relationships like the really big boys do. We are looking to expand to 60 –75 markets within five – six years, because we are looking for great operators, not just for royalties. Phc: Are you looking to keep the franchises regional (Northeast) or to branch out more throughout the States?
