READING Grades 4–6
Zaner-Bloser Voices Literature & Writing TEACHER READ-ALOUDS
Jake read the words in the school’s display case:
“Lacrosse was played in its most primitive form by American Indians as a means of training their young men for war.”
Jake shook his head, wondering, How could people love this game so much and know so little about what it meant to the Iroquois people? What it still means today? He looked back down the hall toward the front door. He wanted to run out that door and keep running until he was back home on the rez where people understood things— understood him.
