The success of a Line dance weekend always depends on its organisation. Looseboots has always been the byword for some of the best events around and in this report we can see why! Keith Stewart of Looseboots gives us the lowdown!
Fun was what was advertised and promised and that’s exactly what happened. We, Looseboots Line dancers, held our annual dance weekend in Jackson’s hotel, Ballybofey, County Donegal, this October, and we had a ball. From the fi rst workshop on Friday afternoon, to the fi nal dance on Sunday night, it was a laugh a minute, with plenty of dancing at the same time. Looseboots always promotes the weekend as a chance for all levels of dancers to come and learn something new. We catered to that broad range in the workshops and the social dancing, with a “Golden Oldies” workshop on the Friday afternoon. We also revived a couple of classic dances, the fun “Altogether Now”, a nice simple Beginner dance, alongside “Waltz With Me”, a beautiful waltz for those who haven’t had much exposure to waltzes before in Line
dancing. The treat we had in store for the dancers though, was that we had the choreographer of “Waltz With Me” at the weekend, Michelle Bain, from Scotland, who recapped the waltz on Sunday, and it was great to have it taught by the person who wrote it. We had three nights dancing in all,
starting on Friday, with our theme for the night of “Pyjama party”. It was great to see so many getting into the spirit of things… Saturday and Sunday followed much
the same format, with a workshop held in the afternoon, followed by dancing that night, with plenty of free time for the dancers to go and explore the local town, or enjoy the leisure facilities at the hotel. The workshops were led by ourselves, the hosts, and we had Michelle teaching a dance each day, one called “Danz’s dance” on Saturday, a great Improver phrased dance which she jointly
choreographed with her niece Danielle, and on Sunday she taught a lovely dance called “She”, which has great variations included in the script to pull it up to Intermediate level for those who like a challenge. Francie taught a great dance by Robbie on Saturday, “Back in Time”, while I taught a little known dance called “Enjoy the Show”, which the crowd really got into. On Saturday night, we had a theme of “Red & White”, and it was really good to see almost all the crowd running with it.
Saturday turned out to be the fun night when it came to demonstrations, with a group from Dublin, “The Elder Lemon Club” putting on a great show, not only dancing two dances for our pleasure, but also one of the group, Ann McHugh, teaching the entire crowd one of the dances they had just displayed. After that, it was our turn.
